What kind of HUNH team only has 62 offensive snaps in their opener?

Is muschamp asking for a slower pace from Gus?

Does JJ have trouble running the offense at a fast pace?

Or was that Louisville D just too much?

We won against a good team. Stat that matters 1-0.

Last year we were middle of the pack in number of plays run.

ETA: 56th last year. LINK

Not ignoring, I'm just thinking it was rather obvious that they would have had 12-15 more plays if not for the 3 picks. AU's 2 turnovers netted only 4 plays I think.
The Louisville D was pretty stout but not great. AU will see better defenses starting with LSU...so JJ better take his meds or get some glasses or something.

Yes, but last year you averaged 72 plays a game.

I think the other poster had it right. (Robert Duval) The turnovers cost you plays. I still believe that Malzahn was trying to get work for John son, letting him pass more than normal. Malzahn will revert to a more run heavy offense when it gets real.

There is a big misconception that Auburn run's a HUNH offense. Yes, we can go fast at times, but for many years now Gus has shown he is perfectly fine with going slower and controlling the clock.

Speaking of ignoring, you're ignoring the fact that AU had a lead of more than two TD's for most of the game and were thus running more clock and less plays.

When you throw 3 picks things like that happen. UL also went 3/3 on 4th downs in the game to extend drives. It was a weird game where if you looked only at the box score you would have thought for sure the Cards had won but while watching the game you were confused on why AU hadn't put the game away

I think it's possible that you're ignoring the huge risk it is to have JJ pass the ball. Maybe that's why yall ran a bunch?

1. We haven't been much of a "hurry up" team in a couple of years.

2. Hard to keep the ball when you keep turning it over.

3. Louisville was able to keep the ball for a while on a few drives.

4. Two turnovers resulted in a 25 yard field (and a 3-4 play TD drive) and a defensive touchdown which kept our offense off the field for consecutive drives.

62 is low but we aren't going to be the type of team that runs 80-90 plays consistently.

See where all the teams are in 11 weeks. All the talk right now is useless, but yes, this is a football discussion forum.

Malzahn's offense being a true hurry up has always been more of a myth than a reality.

Auburn's defense scoring one touchdown and giving the offense a short field so it only took them 2 or 3 plays to score on another occasion did contribute to the lack of plays against Louisville

Gus's offense doesnt gain an advantage by going fast, they gain it by lining up quickly, its always been this way

Some good questions Ed, but I think this is your answer

I fear he would have thrown 10 interceptions if they had tried to go any faster

The one that throws three picks and then only has one possession (that was a three and out) in the last ten minutes of the game, not including the last possession which was also a "three and out" to run the clock out.

Maybe? I'm sure Gus has asked for and considered Muschamp's advice. You don't hire a successful defensive coordinator and then tell him what to do without considering his own ideas on strategy.

Yes. He's young and not as good as people thought.

It was 24-0, then 31-10 and should have been 38-10 if one lineman hadn't done a "whiff and tackle" block on Jason Smith's long touchdown that was called back.

Auburn has created the misconception by advertising "Auburn Fast."

They just rush to the LOS then meerkat to Gus and cue cards.
