Well that's not history at all. The outrageous war on words is currently ongoing. If the Redskins lose, Ole Miss is fricked.

No and only uninformed dumbass delusional State fans like to say that's what it means but it isn't.
headed considering they are sitting #1. Acting just like they have been there when they and the entire world knows they haven't....
It must just take a certain person to go to OM and another at the same high school that goes to State, and State just gets the better quality person...... I mean they may have a few more of what would be labeled a "redneck" but OM has their fair share a and not all of those types are bad people are trashy to be around.
Just had to chime in because it really baffles me.

I think you've spent too much time on message boards because you've not seen what's been happening on Mississippi face books. It's a dumbass war and its a war of attrition.

This is so true. Thanks for chiming in.

Everyone in this thread is an illiterate moron. Everyone that responded to the articles linked in this thread, trying to explain the meaning of the term are dullards. The "writer" of the article is a fool.
Allow me to bring some elucidation to the truly moronic people of our age.
First, if you can, try to understand that many citizens of the United States, in the 19th century, used the term ole to reverently refer to their home states.
Definiton of ole:
Ole
Origin
mid 19th century: representing a folk pronunciation.
Now that you know the dated use/meaning of the word ole, we shall proceed.
Now, let's see if anyone can determine the difference in meanings between Old Missus and Ole Miss? Old Missus is a corruption of the term Old Miss but, neither term has any relation whatsoever to the term Ole Miss.
Miss is an honor title used to label unmarried women. Of course, women today are so butch, they don't like the term but, that's another post.
Your silly heads are spinning aren't they?
Ole Miss, as it is used in reference to Mississippi, refers to what is called a state. A state is area of land within what is called a country. See, Miss, in the instance of Mississippi, is simply a shortening of the term ??? That's right, Miss-----issippi
Let's review:
Ole Miss---Old Missus
Not Old Mississippi but, Ole Miss.
Not Ole Missus but, Old Missus.
If any more help is needed, refer back to this post.
You poor, ignorant bastards!
If Old Missus was the colloquial term that the University of Mississippi students and alumni used to refer to their college, that would be an issue.
As it stands, the race hustlers don't have much ground to wage their battle on. Sorry. Find another cause.

Thanks, Rebelgator. It's so depressing to see what passes for intelligentsia so haplessly trying to explain something. To give meaning to something that there is no real meaning to in order to feel offended.
No wonder blacks aren't offended. Who the frick gets offended at a label referencing a state other than the perpetually offended? Let's all label Old Californy to be racist; that's a good idea.
In fact, why do so many states in a country that was savagely taken away from Native Americans, by evil white monsters, have native names? That's pretty racist.
Let's start a movement to rename all states that have Native American names. Let's see, we are going to have to rename 26 states.
Racist State Names
Ridiculous.

You just have to keep in mind that 95% of the intelligentsia here couldn't pass 5th grade English.
It helps when dealing with them.

But I would like to speak on the behalf of all black men and say that we are all very offended.

The only glossing over is the intentional deviance of someone, either in an article or here in posts, trying to equate the term Ole Miss to Old Missus.
They are two very different terms.
Old Miss is just an invented term to attempt to try to prove a point that doesn't exist.

maybe its you trying to prove a point?
