Lanning weren't obtainable

Lanning was 100% available Bama just didn’t value him enough relative to DeBoer or Norvell to pay his buyout.

Kirby and Sark were unavailable.

DeBoer had first crack at it and took it.

If he had said no or wanted too much money it would’ve been Norvell apparently.

Lane and Dabo are apparently persona non grata for various reasons.

Remember when the news in Alabama confirmed that Lanning was in Tuscaloosa? I actually watched the session live!!

Lanning in Tuscaloosa

New reporter for local 13 News, also openly states that he used to work for Alabama and has a few sources still their. He then goes on to say that the players are aware of him on campus, and the players has been told an announcement will be made with in 72 hours. He all but said Lanning was the new HC.

Just admit the fact that Bama wasn’t as appealing of a job as you thought it would be when Saban left.

Byrne had a name on his mind for years and he hired the guy.

Really? How many years was that exactly? The two years that he was at Washington? The two years prior to that when he was at Fresno State? Or the five years prior to that when he was coaching an NAIA team?

Sounds like urban meyer when UF hired him. How many years do you need for a guy to prove himself? Byrne does his research, just ask your baseball coach.

According to this article, The KVAL Reporter was full of crap. Lanning was never contacted.
From the article :
quote:

Dan Lanning, made it clear earlier Thursday that he wasn't a candidate

quote:

"It just happened so fast, all of it," DeBoer said. "I get the call Wednesday night they want to talk. We're meeting on Thursday morning, and I was offered the job on Friday morning”

After the 2022 season. It’s in the ESPN article.

Our baseball coach was the HC at Arizona for six years before we hired him. Arizona is a Top 5 baseball program all time, with four national titles.

I'm not saying DeBoer isn't a good coach. I'm not saying he won't succeed at Alabama. But ya'll need to come to terms with the fact that you hired the flavor of the month. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Saban wanted DeBoer’s offense at Bama last year. He interviewed Grubb, who turned him down and he had to settle for Rees. He wasn’t a flavor of the month by any stretch.

There is one thing we are all sure of though. There was zero chance Auburn was going to lose their head coach to someone in all of this.

Bama saved enough to land Ryan Williams

Ryan Williams was always coming to Alabama, regardless who the coach was. 98% of that class was already signed, and he had done shut down his recruitment. He “re-committed” just after talking to Debose 1 time.

But let’s talk about the class he is actually recruiting right now, that’s currently ranked #26. Actually let’s take a look at prior recruiting classes under DeBoer.

Under DeBoer:
Fresno- 2020- #103
Fresno- 2021- #71
Wash- 2022- #95
Wash- 2023- #26
Wash- 2024- #36

Pre DeBoer as HC:
Fresno:
2015- #72
2016- #85
2017- #84- OC/QB Coach
2018- #91- OC/QB Coach
2019- #85

Washington:
2021- #30
2020- #17
2019- #15
2018- #16
2017- #22

After DeBoer:
Fresno:
2022- #72
2023- #83
2024- #85

Wash:
2025-?

As you see, DeBoer teams have did better before and after him in recruiting than he was at current teams. DeBoer has never been a great recruiter, and he’s not all of sudden gonna change that just because he’s at Alabama. He’s never worked in the South, and all his coaches he brought with him left less than a month later. Then he tried to bring a defensive coach to from Washington who’s been with him last 5 years and he changed his mind and went to Tennessee, instead of Alabama. Bama will have a good year this year, due to the talent level alone. But give it 4-5 years when all of DeBoer recruits are there and then let’s see! DeBoer hasn’t been at an FBS school long enough to build a team, so we don’t know what he will be beyond 2 years.
