Does this mean LSU profs will have to give up their raised F250's and YETI's?

First off Jindal will never get to run for president unless the GOP thinks wrecking a state, then leaving, is a show of promise for commanding the US. The US is in so much debt it makes Louisiana's debt problems look like a spec.

As someone on this forum stated, LSU only get's about 8% of its budget from the state. If you look at many of the SEC schools it's the same. It's a shame that kids in the South Eastern part of the country get the shaft when it comes to education.

Right now though, for all other SEC schools, for LSU to be shown in any kind of negative light might just help SEC teams other than LSU. I can tell you these Louisiana athletes only become more determined when you try and disparage our prideful state.

All the other schools in the SEC are getting very disturbed, nervous, etc.. at the amount of talent, coaches and the overall building/built program that is about to become the sole powerhouse of the SEC West, the SEC, and the NCAA Football Nation for the next decade.

Greedy Chavis, Recruiting Sanctions, Bankruptcy, whats next in the fear campaign to try and drive away players that want to join LSU. I can tell you these young men will not even bat an eye at this negativity. In fact all this fear campaign is doing is landing LSU some of the best recruits in Louisiana and out-of-state. The amount of "stars" a player has is an absolute joke. These idiot web sites kindergarten star rating system is ridiculous. We are getting the most talented young men with heart and soul.

Here come the Mighty Tigers!!!

We Are LSU!!!

Now, can I run for Governor

Its not real bankruptcy, its just "academic" bankruptcy which will let LSU cut the hell out of the tenured staff is needed. It is a bluff to get more state funding.

Alexander can EAD for all I care. He's really shown his arse during all of this.

He's throwing the integrity and reputation of the university under the bus with his hyperbole and interviews/articles. I don't think it's a good idea to cut the funding, but his fear mongering bullshite needs to stop before it does real damage

He's trying to force the hand of the state government, but in reality all he's doing is making the university look bad especially to prospective out of state students (whose tuition is nearly doubled). This will have the opposite effect he wants.

Insomuch as the State legislature does not have the ability to do "across the board cuts" to state agencies (due to current Louisiana constituion), then yes, higher education is not as high a priority ( as far as budget cuts) to the LEGISLATURE.
But it could not be further from the truth that education is not a high priority to the "populace",
municipal governments, the universites themselves, and local school boards. e. g. The Orleans Parish School Board's new Charter School system is one of the top performing and most improved districts in America, and the Louisiana Department of Education - no matter WHAT the governor, state legislature, or state constituion says, has initiated some of the most innovative new programs and improved test scores and graduation rates dramatically since Katrina.

A 1% or more cut to the approxiamte 11% of the total LSU budget that comes from the state will hurt some programs and students, especially to the satellite campuses in Shreveport, Eunice, and Alexandria; but it will not affect research or LSU's 'Tier I' status....

Obligatory: Ha ha. LSU is poor. frickLSU® Etc uk yuk huk...and all that good stuff.

This is more pinko commie academia playing lapdog to the DNC by launching political attacks on the GOP in response to GOP gutting funding to the heavily-DNC-supporting pinko commie academics. In other words, this is a slight variation on the tired-arse Equus Mulus Communus v. Loxodanta Elephas Homophobus theme we can't seem to shake in favor maximum liberty.

Anyway, rant over, before I really start bitching OT. frickLSU®

tenure is a joke

All three received job offers from other universities, with significant increases in pay, immediately upon receiving tenure. It's not a joke, other universities take it seriously.

LSU is losing it's best young professors because of the budget problem. You can blame it on greedy, big government liberals, but I happen to find usefulness in advanced education, and believe we all lose when our state flagship university has its faculty bailing out like rats from a sinking ship.

The big point many are missing is that it only is related to athletics via optics because the AD runs on private money. Coaching salaries only matter if they look bad politically. The money for football is there.

So it mostly just sucks for the academic side.

Needed to be said again. There are only a handful of institutions in the country that operate this way. Does suck academically, the posturing that is being done...but athletically, the budget is fine.
