And do we still have a straight answer for the logic behind the Muschamp hire?

Because so far it sounds like "mumble mumble recruiting, yada yada he learned something maybe last time, mumble mumble after Steve quit on us we wanted a younger guy." But that doesn't sounds like a plan, it sounds like a reinterpretation of the facts after the hire to create a justification.

What do they see in the guy? Really. Seriously.

I have a theory but I want to see if I am close.

People who criticize the hiring of Muschamp need to give realistic options on who they could have hired at the time.

Well, rumors around town are that Herman was in the bag and ready to sign his contract until USC lost to The Citadel and he saw just how bad the talent situation was and backed out. After Herman, Smart was rumored to be high on their board and some of the beat writers reported that talks were in place. UGA knew they wanted Smart for their next head coach, so they went ahead and pulled the trigger on Richt to get their guy. There were other names that were mentioned, but apparently Muschamp really impressed Tanner in his interview and with the staff he mentioned putting together. So, he got the job.

You didn't hear? They beat Vandy 13-10 so now Muschamp is the best coach ever!

As far as logic at the time? Yeah we wiffed on Smart. If we could have actually gotten him to ink a deal we should have earlier. There's a lot of stuff floating around about whether it was the citadel game or outside influences or if talks with Herman weren't as serious as they seem so I can't give a definitive answer on that. Personally I wouldn't have minded. He's done great things at Houston. I'll even allow for the fact that at the time I wasn't all that thrilled with the muschamp hire. However, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a Gamecock fan who'll say something negative about him presently. He's assembled a great staff, drastically blew recruiting expectations out of the water, and just generally built excitement around the program. No one is expecting any better than like 6-6 this year, but the pieces are there for success.

Yep, our AD made up all that other shite.

Herman pussed out, which I can't blame him too much, and Muschamp was the best we could get after Herman and Smart went off the table. Even the UGA fan agrees.

They got dropped by Herman after losing to The Citadel and settled for Boom.

Pretty much, but I don't think it was losing to the Citadel that did it.

Lol, just stop.

Herman was never going to SCAR. Think logically for one fricking second. Why would he? He's in line for an elite job and he's going to take a bottom tier SEC job.

I just don't understand who you guys are so worried about saving face, even know.

No. The logic of the time is the logic of the time.

If he does well this season and gets to a bowl then maybe that justifies the logic but it isn't the logic.

Again, our AD totally made all that up. Our media made all of it up. You, the random poster on a message board, are correct.

10/10

Who is Dave Odom?

Why? Again, why would he?

Why would a guy, in line for essentially any job he wanted, take the job at SCAR?

Why?

There is no logical explanation for it and I don't care what your AD says. It's a lot more believable that he would try to save face than that Herman would even consider the SC job.

And the reasoning is even goofier...he didn't know that SC was a total rebuild before the Citadel game???

Why would he take the job? Anyone? One logical reason will suffice.

That move would be literally unparalleled in the history of modern CFB. I mean, nothing comparable has EVER happened.

A guy who is in line for any opening he wants has never taken over a gut job at a mid tier school. Never has, never will. Why? Because it would be patently stupid to do so. The whole notion is so utterly asinine I can't believe SC fans are still trying to push it. Insane.

wat did your Ad make up? I've never seen any statement. Did they send Herman a contract? I don't see anything beyond that's who they wanted.

That same shite happened here. That's who we wanted, out fan base made up all kinds of shite that they then believed, except eventually our AD admitted he wasn't that interested.

fans gonna fan
