You are legit. One of the cool Tennessee fans for sure. I got the Vols beating Oklahoma, with extensive confidence.

Thanks Harmonics, I appreciate the kind words. I really do enjoy talking football with anyone who really knows the game. That can be hard to find sometimes.

I hope you're right about Oklahoma, I could honestly see it going horribly OR us pulling the upset but after these years in the wilderness I can't get my hopes too high. There are a few things tho' that make me feel good about that game (at least intellectually): 1. I believe OU will look completely past us and show us no respect 2. I think their WR situation isn't that great even if their QB performs as well as he did against y'all 3. their RB situation isn't good and right now run stopping is the biggest weakness on our D 4. losing their best LB (who I've read but don't know as a fact is supposed to be their D's leader), their 5* RB (who was supposed to carry the load this year), AND DGB's appeal being denied will only help. 5. Derrick Henry's destruction of of OU's D showed us the weak spot - Hurd is built like Henry and as fast as a small speedster type back and Lane is a veteran leader who in his senior year is taking one more and more and as an RB getting better. I think they'll be a problem for OU as a 1-2 punch and Hurd is just special.

That said, the lines are a major weak spot on both sides. Oline may well be better at run blocking (not more talented or even a better line - not close to that) but some of our resident line guys have mentioned that. They're gonna suck at pass protection tho' and Dline is vulnerable inside. We simply can't afford ANY injuries on the lines - there's no one behind them. Tackles will also be weak on oline.

Here's to an injury free (or at least injury limited season for all SEC teams) even Bama who has depth to spare. I hate seeing hard work and hope get ruined for players - don't care who they play for. You'll still whip our asses come TSIO this year but soon people outside of of BAMA-TENN are gonna respect it, maybe even start to understand what it means to us.

As far as the Oklahoma game, Tennessee easily matches the Sooners in regards to talent. Tennessee may actually be better. If Tennessee attacks their defense with the running game that I believe the Vols will possess, they should be fine (this is what Alabama should have done). Oklahoma's defense is cheese. The only advantage they had over Alabama was their little frickstick LB coming off the edge and whipping CyKos arse and McCarron/Yeldon being dipshits on a couple of plays. Alabama made Oklahoma out to be much better than they were. If Tennessee just stays fundamentally sound they can win.

Analytically you've got some excellent points that make sense. And I definitely agree about attacking with our RBs and that Bama should've simply rammed it down their throats. Hurd was an EE and has by all accounts lived up to the billing. Lane has talent as well and competition has made him better (though his biggest issue was staying healthy all year). Scott will be hard to keep off the field but since he wasn't an EE I'd be surprised if it's early.

It's gonna be hard to play at Norman for our first real test though. Plus there's the other things. We're gonna need some luck to go along with those upgrades despite such huge talent upgrades on both defense and offense. We're so much faster this year it's not even funny and that can make up for a lot of inexperience - even the older players (what few we have) are faster. But damn we also got problems and dat youth is gonna have to go on the road and play like sophomores and above.

OU has tons of experience and a big home advantage but what I don't see from them are a lot of star playmakers. Still returning starters used to a system can do serious damage.

I hope we pull it off but about 90 percent of me (probably more) says - don't even. The standard opinion for most vol fans is that this is an automatically loss and it's not close. We're that traumatized. Hell I'm even worrying over Utah State and Arky state because of that trauma.

I had honestly forgot about Lane returning. Having him an Hurd is valuable for Tennessee. They will both add some variety to the offense. Tennessee's WR corps is superb. There is no question Tennessee is loaded at the skill positions. As you said earlier, the question is up front. Hopefully for Tennessee's sake, those boys put in some work.

A bit off topic, ol' Rajon Neal scored a TD for the Pack against the Titans a couple weeks ago. Was happy for him. Guy is a worker.

I've gotten the feeling you're far from alone. We've never played OU and though I knew the SEC despised them I had no idea that most of the country did. Hopefully, some of that goodwill/desire will work some mojo for us and the football gods will hear the prayers of CFB fans across the country.

A win early against a highly ranked team would be huge for us this year. Ah now y'all got me dreaming.

I don't really hate OU per se--A&M never considered them a rival.

But they do tend to pop off at the mouth a bit. Well, specifically Stoops. Did their damndest to downplay the waxing we gave them in the Cotton Bowl, and we all know what happened involving Bama last year. Would like to see them shut up by another SEC team

How does OOC winning percentage manage to translate into being about LSU?

My mistake. Thought you'd have some more ammo. In any event, roll tide.

Actually we played them in 1939 and 1967 Orange Bowls.

We won in 39, 17-0
We lost in 67, 26-24

Not to quibble, but the percentage is technically .000 as no games have been played. You know, what does last year have to do with this year, etc.

And thanks for going the schedule thread route once again. Hey, we're playing Florida, so there's that!
