It's an interesting position battle. Curious to see how it turns out, my money is still on Vinnie playing more defensive snaps than Collins.

He's a solid player. I don't recall anyone claiming he'd be an All American

He changed roles a bit and was responsible for more pass protection this past year. He is very solid in run support but was exposed in coverage which is not something we really saw in 2011.

Yes and he is going to be a stud. People really overblow the fact that he didn't get a lot of playing time last year. If you've followed Saban at Bama, you would know that most of his stud DB recruits have gotten limited playing time in their true freshman year playing mostly on special teams and in the end of blowouts. Dre Kirkpatrick, HaHa Clinton-Dix and Mark Barron were all brought along like that. The only true freshman DB who has gotten a lot of playing time under Saban was Dee Milliner and that was due to the fact that the secondary lost their top 3 DBs the previous year and Menzie tore his ACL. Milliner was forced into duty way before he was ready and it showed. Collins will be the starter and I'll be surprised if he doesn't become one of the best players on the Bama defense by season's end.

He was a great special teams player, too. Really showed out in the BCSNC game. Blocked a punt or two in the regular season if I am not mistaken.

Yes. there was a lot of quality trolling done using Vinnie as the bait.

I'm still a believer in Vinnie and think he will see considerable playing time the rest of his career at Bama.

He will, and he'll be a solid contributor but it takes some seriously crimson colored glasses to not see he's got limitations in pass coverage.

He's going to be a Will Lowery type guy - and that's not a bad thing except that he's in a secondary full of NFL draft picks.

Yes, but this is like the entire roster. It doesn't mean as much at Alabama.

true, but the question is who is going to start. williams has 3 years of knowledge of the system. people are speculating about who will start, a true sophomore who played primarily on special teams or a 27 year old who has been out of football for almost 10 years, but not the 4 star with 3 years in system and who was getting starting consideration last year? if we know anything about saban, its that he will play the guy who knows the plays over more talented guys who dont.

The LC obsession by some LSU fans seems to be a bit much.

I guess obsession is asking a legitimate question and starting a discussion.

Thank you - Vinnie is a solid player in run support - he's a head hunter and can lay the wood.

What obsesseion? OP just asked a question.

To be honest, I've seen very little viritrol towards LC by the LSU fans.

From what I saw the kid was a BEAST on ST and damn good player in run defense. Any DI kid that gets a scholly should probably be omitted from the "SUCKS" group.

He is a damn good player. He was pushed into a different role last season, and he struggled at times. But, if he is allowed to go back to ST & run defense packages we'll see that beast again.
