Couldn't start at running back for Auburn, was moved to receiver, and decided to transfer. His high school coach coaches at Jacksonville State now, so it's a good fit.

He just turned out to be overrated coming out of high school, and has injury issues. Always has.

Facts don't really support this popular narrative about Gus. Last year 2 five stars both got drafted...their contributions to the team over the years is better than most realize. To date Cowart is a bust, but he can still recover and Roc was a bust.

Duke Williams (kicked off)
Kiehl Frazier
Roc Thomas
Byron Cowart
Elijah Daniel (kicked off)
Jovon Robinson (kicked off)

IIRC, all of the above were 5* players on at least one site. And while all weren't exactly busts, none lived up to expectations because of play, attitude or stupidity.

I think Jax State would beat BYU if they played today.

What gave it away? When they said "Roc Thomas" while he was running?

I tend to consider only those who were composites. I also don't blame him for KF. Duke was living up to his talent until he got off his meds. I have never thought about ED or JR as composite 5 stars. Though both were playing well or showing the potential to contribute when they went herp derp. I have always thought our higher profile recruits tend to be soft...this list reflects that.

Imho the ones kicked off for stupidity don't fall on the shoulders of the coach. We all recruit from the same pool of players and the are given ample resources and support to make good choices and be successful students and athletes. There's an equal opportunity for success. If they squander that opportunity then it's on the individual, not the head coach.

I guess I am not the type of person to seek any possible issue with someone. From a football perspective Gus got to work with him during 2011 a season where all reports suggest Gus was handicapped after the MSU game. KF may have simply been overrated but the QB position is mostly about mental strength and I am of the opinion that KF was ruined before Gus got him back.

I also don't put much stock in JUCO stars...I rarely get excited about the addition of a JUCO recruit until they show at this level. Will Gus get credit for a successful 5 star if JS pans out?
