I think a lot of people do not really see anything wrong with a kid getting paid for signing autographs.

A&M takes Manziel to fundraisers, he makes money hand over fist for the university, etc. Errbody is making money of the kid all around him.

It is his name. If he wants to make some money off of it, I think that is fine. I also think the problem is the rule. I have always been one to break both rules and laws I think are stupid. That has caused me to have to pay consequences in my life as well, some of them pretty harsh.

However, I have always done shite my way and always will. And I'll accept suffer consequences and enjoy the rewards that come my way when I do stuff my way when it is in opposition to a law or rule I think is stupid.

So I personally do not have a problem with Manziel whether he did or didn't get money to sign his name on stuff. He put in the work to make his name valuable in the first place.

I differentiate between something like this and say him beating the piss out of his girlfriend. One does not make me think he is an worthless bastard, the other does.

The NCAA isn't tied to a "presumption of innocence", and FWIW I don't think they should be.

I don't disagree with anything you said, and the current rules are way stupid and should be changed. My problem with this is he has jeopardized his team. I don't see a way to talk myself out of that.

So you pick and choose which rules or laws are ok to follow?

They have rules for a reason. Lets just say signing your autograph is ok...how much would Pickens give high school studs too sign at Ok. St. ? Do you see how this could get out of hand?

I agree. It is/was a selfish act and I do think less of him for jeopardizing his team and the people/fans that he means a lot to.

However, I am not ready to crucify the kid and I want him to play at the end of the day. He has a bit too much of an entitlement mentality IMO. He thinks he deserves a piece of the pie and I agree with that part, but it looks like someone hasn't done a great job of setting boudaries in his life and has been too much of an enabler.

Enough physco babble though. Bottom line is I think he recklessly broke a dumb rule because he is a reckless person. It is just not enough for me to say piss on him, he should not be eligible, etc. Just doesn't rise to that level in my book.

Yes. Sometimes I do. My choice. More accurately would be to say I sometimes choose to ignore certain rules or laws I think are wrong, but that is just semantics I guess.

Yeah, I understand that. Like a lot of the NCAA rulebook it is a slipery slope with no perfect answers.

I certainly do not have any good answers to paying college players. A lot essentially get paid as it is and every solution I have ever heard is an imperfect one.

I am just stating my opinion in this case. If Manziel got paid for some autographs I'm not going to get all up in arms about it. I hope he plays either way, but can understand the other side of the coin as well. I am just weighing in on my opinion and where I stand and that is influenced by my own proclivity to ignore rules/laws I do not agree at times.

BTW, I should probably add I give bama hell about the t-town menswear thing which is similar and may seem hypocritical. However, that is not because of me passing judgement on the rule itself, but rather fighting with bama fans that say no rule was ever broken in the first place. Which I view as ignorant, which in turn can get me aggitated.

I doubt JFF ever needed money. I believe all programs are dirty. Plenty of $100 handshakes or free food etc going on. JFF seems like an arse and has completely fricked over his team mates. I also don't see him being an nfl QB.

Not thinking it a big deal -versus- knowing it is not allowed, and doing it anyway, are not the same things.

I personally hope it does not cause him to miss any games, because I want to see him in Tiger Stadium real bad to make that game more interesting, but that has nothing to do with whether doing what is alleged is allowed or not.

But all you are doing is injecting psycho babble into this. If he did it, the simple fact is that at this time, it is against the NCAA regulations that he agreed to abide. If he broke those regulations, he deserves the consequences, even if that means he doesn't play again. It is as simple as that and the rest of your "argument" has nothing to do with this situation.

I'm disappointed in his endless bad choices. More of a cumulative effect for me.

That said, I hope he runs the table for my school if no sanctions are involved.
