It's not confined to the SEC, but AAU basketball leagues are about as dirty as you can get. I have refereed these games for 5 years, and they get away with stuff the mob would not dream of.

A friend of mine coached for an AAU team for a few years and it was crazy. A particular shoe vendor was handing out cash like they were Berry White at a strip club. I couldn't believe how dirty basketball as a whole was, I've determined if you are winning at basketball on any level you are cheating to an ungodly level because you must.

How prevalent is this today?

I find it hard to believe some people really dont think this goes on at every major program

Slive took over in 2002. During his reign the SEC has become the most dominating organization in CFB.

It is a shame that the SEC is starting to be viewed as the dirtiest organization also.

The SEC has that reputation. The funny thing is the programs in the North cheat just as bad but they fail to believe it, oh we'd never do that, yes you have and still do.

The SEC always has been viewed this way because we are backwoods southerners the only way we can win is to cheat. Hate to say it but that's the view the Big-10 tends to have as well as most of the other conferences. That is what pissed me off about the Cam Newton saga, with no evidence Auburn cheated Auburn was guilty by association. I heard someone say this, "Auburn's in the SEC that's just the way of life down there if you don't cheat you aren't trying hard enough. Wonder when LSU and Bama will go on probation you know they are cheating as well." I've over heard that from an Alumni meeting with the other half, she went to a Big-10 school.

Bama was as close to death penalty with Means deal than anyone since then because of the amount of money involved.

Auburn if it comes out that Newton got anywhere close to that after handling this the way it was will get severe penalties but probably not death

It ain't just the SEC - think back to the Miami Hurricane teams of the late 80's- and all of the 90's....

Watching the NFL game last night, I think the announcers said that the 2001 Miami team had 17 (SEVENTEEN) 1st round draft picks. That is amazing in itself.

And, the Miami players were flaunted their status all over Miami - they brought the word "thug" to college ball. Hell, those players were treated better than any of the NFL guys in town, and every one of them were underage - in strip clubs & bars.

Miami was cheating on the level of SMU but got off lightly considering. They suspended the drug testing so that Irvin could still play as he was constantly on the nose candy. I've never cared for Miami just due to the image they put out during that time and how they acted. I know had someone in my unit acted that way while I was in the military we'd inform them a lot can happen out in the middle of no where so grow the F up.

schools all over the country are making Millions off of these guys

and yet only 14 athletic departments finished in the black last year. Also, over 50% of the football programs in Div I lose money. Most of the "profit" comes through contributions to the school (donor money).

IMO, Miami players/coaches (Jimmy Johnson) almost dared anyone to try to screw with their program. Johnson did nothing to but promote the trash talk and thug actions of his team. Hell, he encouraged it on the field as long as they won.

One of the reasons I'm glad Bama beat that a@@ in 92. I know he did, he dared the NCAA to do anything about the program. The largest fraud of the Pell Grant in US history came from Miami for its football players, they were getting cash for injury other players and so on. They were in strip clubs under age and all kinds of crap.
