LINK

it amounts to having four divisions which are rotated. by recombining the divisions you allow all 14 teams to play complete home and away rotations in only four years and maintain the key rivalries.

Same, but there is a very vocal part of the conference that doesn't get what it means to the schools.

The uneven H/A game can be easily solved by having everyone play a "neutral site" game like the Cocktail Party

I'd be fine w/ that.

12 games total: 9 conference (4 home, 4 away, 1 neutral), 1 "real" OOC (home or away depending on yer), 2 FBS cupcakes (presumably both home games), 0 FCS.

It's a way for LSU not to have to play Alabama every year, so the swamp kittens are all for it.

It doesn't matter. All teams in each division will have the same number of home games each year, so it doesn't matter. It isn't like Alabama will have an unfair advantage over LSU.

50% of the time LSU would be playing Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn. 50% of the time we'd be playing Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

I think USC is pretty open to a 9 game schedule.

We had 11 games last season against AQ conference teams and still won 11 games.

Elimination of permanent cross division opponents AND a 9 game schedule would be glorious, but probably won't happen

Didn't Saban propose the 9 conference game format last year and got shot down by every SEC coach in the conference? I thought they voted for this last year and the vote was 13-1?

Best way to do a nine game schedule is everyone plays one neutral site conference game a year. Otherwise, the unbalanced schedule creates inherent advantages and I don't want to listen to LSU fans bitch about it.

Coaches need to man up and do this

I could understand the ADs not wanting to potentially lose a home game every other year but I really don't see the coaches issue. Saban's been pushing for a 9 game conference schedule for a long time but he was the only one to support it last.

Maybe they just like being able to blame Alabama's success on the schedule.....

Cool. Still won't happen. A&M wouldn't play Arkansas every year under this proposal either, and that definitely won't happen. I get that LSU doesn't have rivals and shite, but the fact that any of you think this is practical is just absolutely stupid. You only play 4 teams every single season. The divisions aren't consistent/ That isn't going to happen. I get that the education in Baton Rouge is sub par, but so many of you behind this proposal is just ridiculous.

Good thing coaches are meant to coach and win as many games as possible, not make decisions that are best for the conference, schools, and fans.

Yep. It created another famous Lesism when he said the coaches voted unanimously in favor of an eight-game schedule by 13-1 count

Saban was the one.

the 9th game is still a bad idea for a bunch of reasons:

1) it is unequal giving 50% of the conference an advantage
2) it is suboptimal when an alternative like the roommate switch accomplishes the rotation more rapidly and more equitably
3) it punishes middle and lower tier SEC teams by making them less likely to make a bowl game (there are automatically an extra 7 losses for the conference with an extra 7 conference games).
4) teams which don't make bowls don't get to practice for the period of time between the end of the season and the bowls - this hurts their development for following years and their recruiting
5) money. an increase of only 7 conference games will not make networks pay out a lot more money per year for the television rights but it will mean every major program regularly loses a home game or a neutral site game they could have made additional bank playing.
6) it makes teams even less likely to play interesting (BCS) teams out of conference. 30 years ago a typical SEC schedule was 5-6 conference games and 3 BCS teams OOC. In going to 8 conference games back in 1992 we saw teams drop down to 1-2 BCS teams OOC. With 9 conference games the new norm will be 0-1 BCS teams OOC. This is terrible for college football.

Well, it really doesn't disrupt Bama's schedule all that much. They just likely wouldn't schedule their annual "big" OOC neutral game.
For a team like UGA, USC, and FSU with longstanding OOC annual rivals, it would mean a tougher schedule than most others in the SEC. Especially in the case of UGA and UF that have secondary OOC rivals ( Clemson and MIami), it would definitely mean an end to those games unless they met in a playoff. I don't mind the 9 game schedule. I think it is better than not playing half the conference very often. I actually like the roommate switch option.

If they are voting "before" the Destin meetings, then IMO the 9 game season format will pass.
