This guy wasn't even a MSU guy. Every year he shows me the letters. That is tremendous leadership.

Two great coaches and great guys. I pulled hard for Polks CWS that got beat by Miami. They were best team that year had Will Clark, Palmero etc. Just unlucky.

Ron Polk is a great coach and great for the SEC.
So was Skip Bertman.
It sucks when trolls on this board ruin good threats with their hate of opponents.
One thing personally I love about college baseball, is that while I'm an Alabama fan #1, there is mutual respect between opponents. It's not like football where it's oversaturation and hate hate hate 24/7.
I can honestly say I don't hate any other SEC Baseball Program, including Auburn. Because it's different, you're talking about a sport with mostly kids who are playing out of love of the game---no one is on full scholarship most are paying at least some of their way. Sure some (almost all) programs have advantages over Alabama, Auburn, State, etc...but no reason to hate those other programs, it's an NCAA issue.
It's a shame Coach Polk's reasoning and voice gets thrown in the trash by the NCAA. It's a shame how America's pastime gets treated at this level.

Amen brother. Ron Polk has been fighting the good fight for decades and a lot of 18 year old probably don't even know that it was not long ago that the Ncaa tried to cut the number of games played in a season. Polk helped lead the charge to stop that as well.
The Ncaa does not give a shite about baseball and have tried everything to kill it. Well damn, who loses here? It's the kids who want to live a dream. Limited scholarships while giving title 9 a boost is outrageous.
And Polk is right about the left-wingers in the Ncaa. They always pretend they care about the student athlete while killing dreams of those in a particular sport which as Polk said "Has become almost all white."
Bunch of damn hypocrites and Polk was also right about how it hurts minorities most. If the Ncaa had their way we'd be playing 35 games a year and 25 man rosters. Let's hope more exposure to younger fans understand this so the game never allows them to hurt baseball anymore than they already have.

There are a lot of videos out there of major league managers having a fit over bad calls, but the ones I saw of Polk in real life over the years were always epic. He "invented" a lot of the stuff you see major league managers do now on tv now a long time ago. You could see his face get red as a fire plug, watch him come storming out of the dug out, and you knew you were in for a show. Skip always had bad hips/knees, so he was never as fast to get in an ump's face, but from all the stories out there bout him, his verbal jabs were sharp as razor blades.

Skip also said one of the many tricks Polk taught him, in building a baseball program, was to take old, beat up baseballs & paint them with white paint to make them look new. To save money. I know all of Skip's team reunions over the years end up behind closed doors for privacy, as most of the stories are X rated. I can imagine Polk's reunions are similar. Doubt either ever heard of the term "politically correct". LSU is putting up a statute, finally, of Skip. Is MSU doing anything similar for Polk? Or has it already?
