Amazing how we beat the defending champs in '97 when we didn't field a team.

At the end of 1947/beginning of 1948, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas lost 12 games in a row.

I blame Truman.

You're not wrong about that. Holtz-led South Carolina was one of Nutt's revenge games. I found it embarrassing, because Holtz was a former coach and Nutt was clearly making it a personal.

Yeah, I was at that game. Nutt deserved the karma kickback he got. He earned it that night. All because he sent Nutt packing to Oklahoma, or something like that, when he played at Arkansas.

The next season Holtz had Petty kneel with the ball four times on the one yard line to keep from breaking 40+ on Nutt ... we wanted revenge though. Holt had class.

Holtz didn't win a game in '99 but I swear that was maybe his best coaching job in his career. Our guys fought hard every game. They never quit and we knew then that things would turn around soon.

Auburn went 0-10 in 1950. I'm not sure if there are any losses that connect to those in 49 or 51, though.

The 90's really were a rough decade for football in this state. Though the Saints did win the division for the first time in '91. Only to lose to the damn Falcons in the playoffs.

they lost to the fricking Falcons? what the hell, man?

10 is the right number. Auburn lost all 10 games in 1950, losing to the likes of Wofford and Southeastern Louisiana, but they won their last game of 1949 and won their first game in 1951 to keep the streak at 10.

No, like DBT said, everyone knows football started in 2000.

Common misconception.

Really, there are two main eras of college football history.

You have what is known as the (BJFF) Period, which is the beginning of time up until you reach the (ADJFF) period, otherwise known as 2012, the year of everyone's lord and savior Johnny Football.

However, leading researchers tend to agree that after this current period in college football ends that there may very well be no more reason to even keep a record book anymore.

I can only imagine what the mid-50s was like for Alabama fans. Dark times indeed. And while Whitworth deserves most of the blame for that I think you also have to fault the athletic department, in particular Director Hank Crisp, as well as Whitworth's predecessor, "Red" Drew. Crisp kind of gave Whitworth a blueprint for failure with a limited recruiting budget as well as a staff that was handpicked by the Alabama athletic department itself. Drew pulled a Tuberville and just kind of gave up on recruiting when Jordan arrived at Auburn in 1951. The lack of talent started to show in 1953 and most especially in 1954.
