If he does, his arse will be out the door too. So either way, we good.

Unfortunately for us, you are correct. Unless he gets the right pieces. Not sure how Stidham can make a big difference. Its more about dudes than coaches with Gus.

I think most people know that Gus is pulling the strings and always has been at Auburn. The reports of Lashlee calling the plays mid season were funny and it was even more funny watching people think it actually made a difference.

Same plays just being called by a different guy.

How good of a recruiter was Rhett? It seems with that mindset you would just want the best QB coach or recruiter at OC.

LANIERRRRRRR

FWIW, I have always wanted Lashlee gone. I just can see no value of keeping someone who has been with Gus since high school. No opinions of his own, no fresh takes, just the stuff Gustav taught him. And he clearly couldn't develop QB's

Give me fresh blood and new ideas

Hard to judge really. How do we know if he pulls them in or Gus? Auburns problems are not recruiting. We have and have had plenty of talent to do better than we have

Its coaching and play calling that has killed us on offense

You don't know if he was the lead recruiter on some good/great prospects in the last few years? You never know for sure and obviously your HC is going to be a big factor in a players' decision but I feel you can normally get a fairly good grasp on a coordinator/ position coach's ability to recruit.

It definitely isn't their main issue but you can always improve in that area.

So, I guess you are just looking for a solid coach as OC if you believe the play calling won't change with Gus still there?

Come on man. Everyone knows that no matter the team involved, the backup that's never played a snap is always better than the starter.

ALWAYS. Even if the starter just won SEC offensive player of the year.

Unfortunately I do not. It wont change. Gus is Gus. The only thing that can save us is to get a Qb who can run the read so we can keep things simple

Wait a minute. First Auburn fans hated Laslee, then you loved him and said he was doing a great job since Malzajn turned over the play calling to him, and now you hate him again?

It's hard to keep uo.

I got news for you: As long as Malzahn is the coach, Auburn will run the high school offense that everybody has figured out, and he still can't develop a QB.

Another mediocre season ahead.

Ill help ya since its pretty easy

quote:

First Auburn fans hated Laslee

because we wondered why he was there and being paid so much if Malzahn was actually the OC.

quote:

hen you loved him and said he was doing a great job since Malzajn turned over the play calling to him

Thought there might be a change in play calling approach, it was more anticipation and excitement

quote:

and now you hate him again?

see the first answer

quote:

high school offense

I think I just saw Bama run another gimmick play...

But but but Jimbo said Coker almost beat Winston for the starting job. Just like Gus said Neil Caudle almost beat out Cam

If you hop over to the Bama board, you'll see he isn't alone.

CRL is only a symptom of Auburn's frustrations. For much of 2013-2016 CRL was seen as dead weight to much of the Auburn fanbase. Then when the Clemson gameplan was unveiled which in no doubt all the O coaches helped create suddenly Gus was the problem. Then Gus announced the O was CRL and it looked identical to when Gus called plays...the difference was simply he had more talent than the teams he was playing and the O looked better.

Not different...not more creative...just more effective. Once they played teams with NFL D players the same issues arose that hurt this team earlier in the year. A close study of Gus' offense isn't difficult. When he plays below average D's no matter the QB he does well. Against above average D's he needs a true DT who can hit the deep ball. Against an elite D he has a poor record, but with an Elite DT he can compete.

I hope he hires a OC with some history developing the passing game, but I pray we stay committed to being a run first power team. CRL needed to go and Gus needs some fresh eyes in the film room and fresh words on the headset.

Lashlee turned that offense around once Malzhan finally gave up play calling. Don't see the reason for all the hate towards him

I thought the offense was better when Gas gave play calling to Lashlee?
