Sidewalk fan here. Never attended LSU and I didn't even apply there. Both parents are LSU grads, but I went to Sewanee and I also have a degree from Bama

I never understood that myself. I have family that did attend UA but worked and retired from there. They're good fans that don't act like dicks and are very cordial to other fans. Getting money for college was a lot harder for them to receive at their time. I wouldnt call them "sidewalk."

It seriously irritates the hell out of me how obnoxious sidewalk Bama fans are though. I guess that's because I'm in Mississippi and you run into the occasional high school drop out, toothless redneck, "This is for the Bear Roll Ride" type of Bama fans.
They can't spell Tuscaloosa and the only things they know about Bama are 14, The Bear, Mark Ingram, Nick Saban and Roll Tide.

Eh, I see em' in Mississippi, but most are in alabama. And "rawtahd" is the most redneck phrase anywhere

I noticed the only fanbases that seem to have a disdain for the sidewalk fans in this thread have tiny fanbases like Auburn, and Ole Miss.

A sidewalker isn't going to choose to be a fan of a second place and second rate program in its own state.

What about ND fans. I know a lot of people like them because they are Catholic but they've never set foot in the state of Indiana. But I can see liking a school for religious reasons. They feel a bond with that school.

My interpretation of a sidewalk fan is someone who claims the team as their own, but knows absolutely nothing about them.

That's why I mentioned the schools in my other thread. I hate the fans in Kansas that have that stupid "House Divided" license plate with a KU/K-State, KU/OU, KU/Pitt State logos. shite irritates me. I guess they like one school in basketball and the other in football.

Cheer for the school that you went to or someone in your family went to (if you didn't go at all). It makes no sense to me to randomly cheer for some school's teams when you have no real tie to the institution.

#5. Fan of school “A” has never attended the university but grew up following the sports teams. Went to Southwest Jacksonville Community College, yet loves to talk academic smack about how great the university is that's attached to the football team he supports.

I haven't attended anything Heat related. Does that make me a sidewalk fan?

Pro is different. Just not that same old tradition, cult mentality. I know some 'diehard' Rangers fans, but they sort of die down until the next season starts.
