Don't take this the wrong way, but your opportunity for legit exposure is going up from here. I know that is different from tradition, but my point is that your iconic stuff, at least to outsiders, starts now. I would probably attempt some blend of old and new that solves practical problems.

Overall point is that most college football fans will be paying attention to Mizzou, perhaps for the first time, from here on out, assuming you continue to be competitive. Other than folks from your old conference, everyone else will assume whatever you look like in 2014/15/16 is who you are. Use it as an opportunity to mold the traditions/stadium/uniforms to your needs.

I've thought for a while that they should do something different with it. I'd love to see the Rock M taken out of the north endzone, and turned into a really cool water feature, either as a vertical fountain in the north concourse, or as a big fountain outside the stadium. One of those big vertical fountains that the water just runs down, you know what I'm talking about?

That way we keep the tradition of the Rock M, and still completely open that north end for seating.

Put in seats. Phase 5 looks badass doe. Sorta like Bama's stadium.

It was designed by a Bama fan.

Great idea. Y'all should go with that.... OR DO THIS!

no strong opinion since it's not my team but I think you could semi enclose it with seating and still keep the tradition. Could potentially be a very nice stadium with the upgrades.

Rock M is definitely a well-known landmark in college football,

Not trying to be a dick and knock one of your traditions, bc we all have our own that we are proud of, but to say that it is a "well-known landmark in cfb" may be a stretch.

Lots of good ideas. Depending upon how strong the tradition is amongst Mizzou fans, I vote for keeping it with seats on both sides as depicted in all of the phases. The seats frame it and make it look sharper.

Yeah okay.. maybe a Big12 landmark. But that only proves my point. We are an SEC team now... the hill is not "SEC"

No. It makes your stadium unique and interesting. Part of what makes college football great is each school has their own traditions.

I like the idea of making it like Kauffman stadium. My dad lives in KC, been to KS many times and it is absolutely gorgeous

Based on the different planned phases, I'm not sure removing it would be necessary. Seems like there are plenty of options to expand before completely removing it would be necessary. I liked Phase IV. Plus, there seems to be a trend toward falling attendance in most places the past few years. I guess I am in the camp that thinks this will continue. Kind of be a shame to bust up a tradition to put in seats that may end up empty.

The hill might be a landmark at Mizzou, but I can guarantee its place in the college football tradition pantheon is non-existent.

I don't get why some people are hung up on the littlest traditions...Uniforms, fight songs, stuff actually associated with the school, keep.

If the New York Yankees can tear down 100 years of the best baseball history, ever, you can get rid of that rock garden and make your stadium look up to SEC par.

Threads like these are so tiresome.

Arky, Ole Miss, Vandy, Mississippi State have various other things in one of their endzones besides traditional concrete stadium open air seating: bleachers, a scoreboard, press box/luxury box stuff, a hill. Do all of those merit the same criticims for not being "up to SEC par" that Mizzou's rock M does? If so, why the hell are they still in the SEC?

It's just a stupid thing to argue about. Insecure fans or alters like OP aside, the last reason Mizzou should make decisions about its stadium and traditions is what OTHER fanbases think. Last I checked, those other fanbases are our competitors and rivals and its not like they are gonna start supporting Mizzou if we make the stadium look a certain way. Mizzou should make its decisons about what traditions and structures to maintain based on its own alumni, students, fans, players, coaches, and prospective recruits. If a whole bunch of the above clamor for the M to go, then it should go. But if the only ones clamoring are a bunch of faceless Rant posters from Bumblefrick Tennessee, then we really shouldn't give two shits.
