Seriously though... What is Alabama fans problem with UAB athletics? Are you just blindly agreeing with whatever UA says or do you have an actual gripe?
I've got nothing against UAB football or UAB fans. What is bothersome to me is all the AU fans that are using this issue as an opportunity to get on the soapbox to bitch and moan about Alabama.

I hope they keep the program. I also hope they build them a new stadium and eventually break away from UA as far as athletic decisions are concerned. Why in the world should I want them under a boot? 99.9% of Alabama fans would be happy for UAB. The .1% is people defending it because it is related to UA. And that same .1 would be trashing AU if UAB was controlled by AU. They don't know even know what they are saying.

It's sad if people in charge let personal problems affect their judgement in regard to closing a football program. Especially when it will have virtually no impact on them at all.

Yeah, well, about as interesting as any other random comment from any other random LSU fan, I guess. If there were "rich UAB alums" interested in donating larger sums to UAB, one would think they'd already be doing it.
Found this in USA Today. College revenue and expenses for the period 2006-2011. For that period, UAB had a total profit of less than $500,000. But that is also after the fact that almost two thirds of all of UAB's revenue comes from subsidies...students fees, direct and indirect institutional support and state money. In comparison, only 4% of Alabama and Auburn's revenue came from subsidies.
Personally, I thought this part of the article was telling...
"For years, Birmingham civic leaders have tried to build a dome stadium but got tepid support from UAB, which is the city's biggest employer and prides itself on medical research. Carol Garrison, UAB's president in 2011, wanted to build up campus life in part through a stadium. UAB proposed that the stadium would carry a debt service of $60 million to be repaid over 30 years with an annual debt service of $3.88 million."
Seems like the city was trying to throw a bone to the university, but UAB wouldn't cooperate. Having your own stadium on campus is always the ideal, but that annual debt service of $3.88M is a big chunk when you're not even netting $500,000. And if the donors were there to make up the difference...why has the program had to rely on 64% of its revenue coming from subsidies? If the city is willing to build a stadium you can use, why hold out for building your own when your future resources are so uncertain? Why not let the city assume all the financial risk?

I really think you represent the vast majority of UA fans on this matter.

For me it has nothing to do with Auburn vs Alabama. It has to do with me being a Birmingham native and wanting what's best for the city and the local University. I grew up rooting for Darrell Hackney and Roddy White and the basketball program with the Taylor twins and Squeaky Johnson. It also has to do with the countless friends and even some family that attended UAB.
I just happen to find it humorous that literally the only people bashing UAB and calling for an end to the program are Alabama fans.

If they can have a stadium and run a program that will be financially solvent...without relying heavily on subsidies...i.e. tax dollars and money from student fees and tuition...and with that financial support guaranteed, not based on projections of what they "might" do...I'm all for them continuing to have a football program. Personally, I think they should pursue working with the city on a city owned stadium to reduce the financial risk.

You might be surprised to know how many of those Alabama fans are only taking up the argument just to piss off all the Auburn fans taking up for UAB...at least on this website. Most of them probably don't care one way or the other.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. It's a hot button issue with me so I bite easily.

I pulled for UAB growing up (when they were basketball only) but when I moved back to Alabama and heard all their whining and coveting of everything Bama, I became sick of them.
They can't give tickets away to get 15,000 in the stands. I don't blame them for not wanting to go to Legion Field but that's not a good enough reason not to support your school. Yet, they claim if everything could be given to them, they'll support the program.
As someone who has put a considerable amount of money into the UA system through tuition and donation, I'm opposed to the system building a stadium or propping them up anymore. If they can do it in their own (which they can't) I don't care, nor do 99.9% of Bama fans. More power to them.
I won't paint with a broad brush for today's UAB fans because i don't know if they're still the jealous, envious fans they used to have. I don't care if their sports programs exist. I can't tell you their record and only know who the coach is because I knew who he was from his coaching at Prattville.
Regardless to what the Awbs want everyone to believe, UAB is not a threat to Bama and I commend the BOT for making fiscally smart decisions.

The economy is in the toilet, state's budgets are super tight if not over-extended, but yeah, spending millions of dollars on a football program nobody gives a shite about, seems like a great use of tax payer dollars.

at first it would suck for the players and a few hardcore fans.
But after a while it will come out as making the most sense.

Nah. You just can't tell how bad your fans really are. As for UAB's football program there is no point in shutting it down just to benefit Bama. Even the one pushing all this stuff is a Bama fan.

please let god's plan to have the board shut down UAB and the UAB coach come to lsu and become bama's worst nightmare by lsu having a competent coach.
