No, I'm not trying to start an oxymoron thread. I do have a few questions however. I do live up here amongst you and an basically forced to watch and read all things Hog. We are all going to have more than ample time to hear and read about rehashings about this past season of why you did this good and did this bad. "What ifs" and "if onlys" will certainly be in every article if not every paragraph.

Question - Will next season be one of which the excuses for losing are kept to a bare minimum? Will next year be the one the Hog faithful get pissed for not winning games as opposed for making excuses for losing games? Commode bowls should not to be good enough to suffice to claim "We had a good season, we're going to a bowl". Will next season be the one where you should expect a BCS game?

I'm not trying to flame because I do believe your program is headed in the right direction for a time anyway. I'm just wondering when you expect the "year of the Hogs" to be.

Sure SOUNDS like you're trying to flame.

Making excuses just to ignore the obvious is one thing (see Houston Nutt's tenure at Arkansas). But the problems with the Arkansas team (defense) are legitimate excuses.

You make it sound like Arkansas was supposed to be a BCS team this year. Most people predicted us to finish somewhere between 4-6th in the SEC-W. The most important thing I, as an Arkansas fan, want to see is progress. This team is miles better than last year. Hopefully that will continue next year.

Now, I wonder how teams that have so many future NFL quality players on both sides of the ball can deal with losing multiple games the last two years that they had no business losing.

Arkansas has very little in state Div I talent. I know, i was born and raised there, so I feel I know a little about this. And on top of that, lools like the #1 recruit from Arkansas is going to Auburn. Ark has got to keep all of the in state talent and that causes problems on being a consistent contender in the SEC. I personally think Ark would kick arse in the Big 12 N. Louisiana on the other hand has tons of H.S. Div I talent ( most years anyway). LSU's problem on the other hand is not players, it is coaching. I give Miles one more year ( if he fires Crowton). One of the things that Saban did for LSU is elevate expectations. That has not diminshed since he left. Another thing that I have mentioned in other posts is that Baton Rouge may be in the most perfect place to recruit ( I10 corridor from Houston-East Texas to Fla panhandle. Just my 2 cents worth

A little to early to predict next year but I do believe that we will improve over a 7-5 record this year...

And BTW...It sounds like you are trying to flame..

Maybe next year?

If we had a better kicker, or had Mallett a tad better under control, we would have won last night and also at Florida. Our D was totally unprepared against Georgia in what should have been another win.

Put another way, we could have easily been 10-2 right now, with a schedule much harder than we'll have next year. Last year, we were 5-7 and could have easily lost a few more. Our few wins were squeakers. This year, we slaughtered the weak teams. Big Big difference in teams (that unfortunately didn't translate to many more wins.)

Before the season this year, someone(not a hog fan) opined that Arkansas could improve vastly this year and not get any accolades because of a 7-5 record. This is exactly what happened, and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I think we are the best of the 7-5 SEC teams.

I'm not into the whole moral-victory thing, but we have shown vast improvement in a short time, and I think we are POTENTIALLY a threat in the SECw next year.

I see 9-11 wins next year.

You've been gone too long and don't understand how and where Petrino recruits. The unrealistic old adage of putting up a fence around the state left a couple of years ago. BP does not depend upon in-state athletes only.

Top Hog freshman in '09 are:
Ronnie Wingo (RB) - MO
Knile Davis (RB) - TX
Cobi Hamilton (WR) - TX
Dylan Breeding (P) - AL

Sure there's a lot of in-state talent in Fayetteville, but it's not the only area where BP has been getting players.

Thanks WooPig---I know when I lived there over 30 yrs ago that our best players came from Texas and of course this was in the good ole SWC days.......Tenn is another SEC school that recruits heavily out of state.
