Every good team wins close games even 09 Alabama had some close calls that they had to overcome.

Lose every SEC game not at home. Beat LSU though

its amazing to me that some Auburn fans still think J.Johnson should be the QB next year. just stick with McNarshall.

I don't want JJ to start. But Gus isn't a run only guy, despite what some seem to think. Auburn people realize that pounding the ball, with no threat of the pass, won't work even with Malzahn's well-designed rushing offense. Even this year, it required Nick to occasionally hit a huge play through the air.

If Nick doesn't improve in that (I think he will) he'll be pushed hard by JJ.

You sound like people dissing mason last year. It is obvious when you watch him he has talent

I don't think it is even close to a lock that Marshall is the starter next year, but even if he is he should hopefully be much improved in the passing game

I know a few of those games were close going into the fourth, but only two were decided by 7 points or less. Going 2-0 in one possession games is a far cry from going 6-0. Nothing against this year's AU team, they had one of the craziest seasons I've ever seen.

sure, he had a good passing offense with some different QBs. but he never found the kind of success from that type of offense that he's had with Cam and now Marshall as a running QB. Power run game >>>> short/intermediate passing game

That's my point even dominant teams have close games and need some good fortune to be successful.

The second coming of Jordan Jefferson is still going to be there.

Marshall is infinitely, and I really want to stress INFINITELY, better than Jefferson.

The guy is an absolute menace on the ground and can make some of the throws you need him to make. Every now and then he makes a big time throw that makes you think he'll be great one day.

Jefferson was a horrible QB with an even worse attitude.

What? We threw for nearly 1k more in 2010. Pretty sure the ideal QB for Gus, absent a Cam like player, is an athletic QB who is a better passer but a serviceable runner.

Auburn will have a lot to say about who wins the west next season. That Auburn-LSU game will be huge.

I think Marshall is the 2nd best QB Gus has had at Auburn or anywhere else, and he is clearly a better runner than passer. this year's AU offense was dynamite. you don't get the same results with more passing. the power run game gives you a physical advantage over the defense. plus you make it a lot easier and more fun for your OL by asking them to run block all day long.

Gus Bus 2014 has already shown itself a bit. Auburn had 232 yards rushing and 217 through the air. That's probably their most balanced game of this past season. Marshall was only 14/27. He missed some fairly routine throws, one of which got intercepted. Next year, he won't miss nearly as many "easy" throws. He'll have more chemistry with receivers.

Meanwhile, Gus will be playing puppeteer from the sideline. He'll use the read option to make you stay in man/gap assignment defenses. Then he'll target your weak link or pull something totally unexpected. Exhibit A was the long distance handoff (because Nick Marshall can't throw, remember?) to Melvin Ray. The guy played in 3 games with 4 catches for 54 yards before his 50 yard TD. The last guy you expect to beat you could be the one you have to cover tighest at any given mment.
