There are seven teams on LSU's schedule that we played last year. Since we changed DCs, it stands to reason that our defense might be different. So, it makes sense to compare stats this year to last year versus the seven teams we will have played in both years. Two are down, five more to go. Here is how the stats compare...
LSU vs. Mississippi State
Points allowed: 34 in 2014 (LOST 34-29), 19 in 2015 (WON 21-19)
Yards allowed: 570 in 2014, 378 in 2015
Yards rushing allowed: 302 in 2014, 43 in 2015
Yards passing allowed: 268 in 2014, 335 in 2015
LSU vs. Auburn
Points allowed: 41 in 2014 (LOST 41-7), 21 in 2015 (WON 45-21)
Yards allowed: 566 in 2014, 260 in 2015
Yards rushing allowed: 298 in 2014, 160 in 2015
Yards passing allowed: 268 in 2014, 100 in 2015
Next installment in this series will be after we play Florida on October 17th...

Can't compare the two. 2014 and 2015 MSU are two completely different teams.

I get what you are trying to do here. I think you won't have anything meaningful until a few games from now.

Of course the teams will change from 2014 to 2015, but over the course of all seven games, changes should even out. We'll no doubt do worse against some teams than we did last year and better against others. Eventually, it should even out. In the end, we should know...something.

I think a lot of SEC defensive stats will look better this year compared to last years totals. QB situations alone ought to skew things quite a bit.

So are you saying this year's MSU QB isn't as good as last year's?

Clearly their QB is just as good, but he's lost a lot around him...
I'm saying that offenses as a whole are not as prolific as they were last year for many teams.

At the very least there's a lot of uncertainty on that side of the ball, conference wide.

I can't imagine what you could possibly be talking about. I offered stats with absolutely zero commentary. Whatever you get from that factual information is your own conclusion.

The talent/experience level on this year's defense is better than last year's. Mainly the two DTs are older and better, and last year it took half the year to get Beckwith playing.

LSU defense will be awesome this year, there's no doubt about that.

Why don't you compare them to their peer groups?
2014 LSU first in the SEC. 2015 will finish 1st-3rd.
