Police reports indicated that Thomas, who was driving, was speeding at approximately 100 m.p.h. even though snow and ice were accumulating on the roadway. Thomas and one of the passengers were not wearing seat belts and both were thrown from the car; the passenger was killed instantly.

Could be that CTE brain injury that affected Junior Seau got to him too?

I mean doesn't seem like a rational thing to do driving 100 mph in the ice. shite, it's bad enough going 30 or 40 is dangerous on ice

I met DT a few times when I was younger. He was a really good dude. Always had time for fans to sign something or take a picture or just have a conversation. GOAT.

It's not rational. I probably wouldn't be thinking rationally if I were late to the biggest game in my life either though.

You've never sped? Never drank a little too much before taking the wheel? Never texted while driving? Never driven while distracted? Never drove while sleep-deprived?

I met him in KC about a year before he died. Super cool guy even when I told him I had just graduated from Auburn. I hated losing him. He was a legend!

Thought he was just going to watch the NFC championship game. Chiefs are in the AFC.

He was driving to St. Louis. I was thinking it was the super bowl. He wasn't playing for sure.
NM, was driving to MCI to catch a flight to St. Louis to watch NFC Championship.

The irony of life.... One of the main themes of the bio was that he was always late, that was his thing. I choose to believe he loved the speed of th rush. Either way, I was saddened when learning of the news back then it disturbed me

Jesus H. Christ. I'm guessing you weren't fortunate enough to live through what DT actually did for the military or his program he started in 1990 for kids from the ages 9-13 facing adversity and life-threatening situations. DT was one the greatest people you would have ever met

What does anything you just said have to do with the point?
I said " Don't be late".
I don't make a habit of being late to important events. A habit which according to the documentary, DT exhibited often.
I have clocks, and show up where I am expected early. If for some reason, I do run a few minutes behind, I can assure you I have a good reason, and don't find it necessary to drive 100+mph on icy roads to not show up late.

Wtf???!!! Are you watching this?
The guy was a piece of shite. He had a good father who lost his life as a hero. Went out and fathered a bunch of kids that he chose not to be a dad to. Then hypocritically made a big deal out of his fathers death.
Very good football player, no doubt. But don't pretend he was a "great" guy.
Its widely known that he spent MILLIONS raising his kids was a big part of their lives.
He definitely made some bad decisions and should have been smarter during his youth, but dont act like he didnt support his kids.

Yeah, that "didn't support his kids" hogwash earlier burned my biscuit.
The son that did the narration for the documentary didn't know DT - not because DT was a deadbeat dad but because his mom never told DT she was pregnant with his child and the son didn't know DT was his bio dad until he was 17.
She may never have told him if not for the fact that he was going to Miami for a basketball tourney in high school and DT's family wanted to meet him.
His mom didn't tell DT's family about the son until after his death.
His mom didn't meet DT's mom until they were filming the part of the documentary at Denny Chimes.
It's also crazy that two of his sons played CFB - one at Colorado State and one at Mizzou and the son in the documentary played juco basketball. And one of his daughter's is on a track and field scholarship and has hopes to compete in the olympics.
There are tons of articles and stories about his presence in his children's lives and he was far from a "deadbeat dad" as far as financial support.
He was no saint but some of the comments in this thread are just horseshite.

Thomas was as good as a defensive player as the SEC has ever had. He was also as good a pass rusher as the NFL has seen and I consider him right up there with some of the Hall of Famers when it comes to getting after the QB. After his death, some things came out about his personal life that many people were unaware of. What man can say he never made any mistakes in his life? Since I dont know him personally, I damn sure aint gonna judge him. He was as good a football player as there ever was. That much Im sure of.
