I've seen this done for NFL players, but never saw it for MLB...so I thought I'd look it up to see how it came out. This is MLB players by state of birth.

State - # MLB Players - Population - Rate per 1,000,000

1. Missouri – 591 – 6,044,171 – 97.78

2. Mississippi – 197 – 2,991,207 – 65.86

3. Alabama – 314 – 4,833,722 – 64.96

4. Kentucky – 275 – 4,395,295 – 62.57

5. Louisiana – 239 – 4,625,470 – 51.67

6. Arkansas - 152 - 2,959,373 - 51.36

7. Tennessee – 284 – 6,495,978 – 43.72

8. South Carolina – 175 – 4,774,839 – 36.65

9. Georgia – 331 – 9,992,167 – 33.13

10. Texas – 850 – 26,448,193 – 32.14

11. Florida – 454 – 19,552,860 – 23.22

Interesting numbers, but the ratio is somewhat nonsensical as there is no control for post-birth movement. What this really shows is that Florida and Texas are the most popular destinations of the states listed.

Mizzou baseball suffers from the overwhelming MLB presence in the state. Not enough fricks given by the fans to support a successful program

there are programs that are very successful without much fan support and some from areas with an overwhelming MLB presence:
2013 avg attendance #'s
Rice - 3.3k
Virginia - 2.9k
Arizona St - 2.7k
Arizona - 2.7k
Vanderbilt - 2.5k
Fullerton - 2.1k
NC State - 1.8k
Stanford - 1.65k
UNC - 1.5k

those are just from the top 50 in the country. Then you have schools like UCLA that average less than 1k per game. Fans' supporting college baseball isn't solely determinative of how successful a program can be. With the amount of talent in a baseball crazy state like Missouri, them not making it to Omaha in 50 years is pretty ridiculous. Honestly, there aren't THAT many schools that really have a lot of fan support for baseball. After the top 10 or so, fan support is pretty weak across the board
