I hate to stick up for UF, but they are a very good school in a good location. But for the numbers to be that lopsided....yeah there's definitely more FL residents than GA residents that applied to both schools.

This is students who applied to both schools, considering UF's rankings, etc. I don't see what is so surprising.

They should only compare in-state schools with each other.

Agree. Can say that I've honestly never met anyone that has applied to both UGA and UF for undergrad. And if someone did, I'd almost guarantee they'd just pick the in-state school due to cost and familiarity (the campuses and climates are nothing alike)

Georgia Tech 77% vs. Georgia 23% is kind of shocking.

Why? Most people that would apply to Georgia tech apply for Engineering. Tech is pretty stout academically. Georgia is no slouch, but Tech is WAY up there.

Poor little dickrider.

But seriously, without digging into the site right now, does anyone know anything about the data used? Such as what time periods are covered, etc.

Yeah, you apply to Tech because you have a set career path in mind. Engineering or architecture? You go to Tech. Everything else? UGA.

This is a pretty meaningless stat since Tech IS an engineering school and Georgia just formed a College of Engineering in 2012.

As much as it doesn't make A&M look great, this really should be divided by in-state and out-of-state.

imagine the majority of people applying to both UGA and AU would prefer to go to UGA, regardless of tuition.

Most student who apply to Georgia and Georgia Tech would rather go to Tech if you believe that website. More proof Georgia is the 2nd best school in their own state

Yeah, I'm betting the vast majority of those applicants were residents of TX.

To the extent you're right, it's a pretty new development. When I started in the early 2000s, Alabama was a mediocre campus in a dumpy town. It's certainly improved, as Bama has pumped money into that effort, but I'm not especially concerned with having an inferior campus to Alabama's over the long term.

Small, private schools give really wonky results.
Also, big universities in states with big population seem to have a pretty consistent bias in their favor. I suppose that makes sense, though (based on cost and conveience).

Both Alabama and Auburn are solid state schools. Bama excels in business, law, and pre-med while Auburn excels in engineering, architecture and vet medicine. Choosing the best school to attend between the two really depends on one's choice of major/career path.

How the hell is that shocking? GaTech is a top 10 engineering school.. if you apply there and get in you are probably going there unless you get in MIT...
