I already showed this morning that the 2012 expansion (namely the shite program Missouri) sent the SEC into a downward spiral.

UK has hoops
Arkansas is its own market
Vanderbilt has academics & baseball
What does UT bring? I think it's time we replace them with OU or UNC.

Better coaches. Urban,Spurrier,Miles, who at this time was a good coach,Richt,Saban. The conference was deep with quality coaching

This is the crux of the problem.

The question needs to be asked: What can the conference do about coaches who are afraid of Saban?

Urban quit and ran. Franklin wasn't challenging Bama but he got out of the conference asap, none of the "hot name" coaches even bothered to look at SEC jobs. Herman? Fleck? They weren't about to sign up to face Saban every year when they could see much easier paths to big time post seasons. 2 coaches who were brought into the West to face Bama have fallen on their faces, Sumlin and Bert. Freeze showed an effective plan to beat Bama, but after teams see what OM is getting for it nobody is going down that path anytime soon.

Face it, this is the SEC until Saban retires

Here is the biggest issue. No knock on Dan Mullen. He is a good coach. With that said,he is the 2nd best coach in the conference. That is a big issue for the conference.

I just don't get everybody fawning over Mullen and acting line McElwain is trash. McElwain 14-3 in the SEC. It took Dan 5 years to get to 14 years, it's taken McElwain a shade over 2.

Saban has the SEC by the short hairs and is tugging hard.

LSU and Tennessee are the only two teams that have played the top team from each division every year since then.

Wait, I thought Florida sucked? If Florida sucks then everyone else should just kill themselves.

UF has been pretty bad during this period, by Gator standards and still has the 2nd best record.

SEC records of current coaches:

.852 Nick Saban 69-12 (97-24 lifetime)
.824 Jim McElwain 14-3
.563 Gus Malzahn 18-14
.525 Kevin Sumlin 21-19
.500 Kirby Smart 4-4
.461 Dan Mullen 30-35
.424 Butch Jones 14-19
.400 Will Muschamp 4-6 (21-21 lifetime)
.313 Brett Bielema 10-22
.273 Mark Stoops 9-24
.225 Ed Orgeron 4-3 (7-24 lifetime)
.222 Barry Odom 2-7
.208 Derek Mason 5-19

Matt Luke N/A

I don't see how Dan Mullen is clearly the 2nd best coach in the league? I know State is a tough job in a really tough division. But I mean come on, Sumlin and Malzahn are staring down the barrel, and they've had plenty more success than Mullen.

They aren't the same, which is why Florida has had DRASTICALLY more success than State.

Florida plays LSU as their permanent, while State has Kentucky. Florida plays FSU OOC and State plays nobody, Mac still wins 9 games. Florida has played Alabama two years in a row, obviously lost both, but still won 9 games.

The SEC sucks as a whole.

'12,'13 and '14 were all good years for the SEC (multiple teams with top 10 finishes and 2 NC's)

'15 and '16 not so much and we'll see what happens

I don't think he is trash. Based on the body of work and where it is being done, I choose Mullen.
