The SEC Rant was made as a forum for all fans, not just Gumps. I would point out that the Tiger Rant is still open to all fan bases. No special access is needed to post there, unlike some of the other team forums on here.
Still, let's say you're right...a forum was created, Alabama fans stayed...and the Tiger Rant kept on keeping on. That's unique from the perspective of a fan base. Both in creating a board, and being ok with it. Just look around, and feel free to link similar sites with the same scope and success.

Look, man, I'm not arguing against that TD is unique. I'm arguing that its existence is due to an individual, not some inherent trait of a particular collective.

Nobody Gumps so hard that they turn down ad revenue for the sake of Bear.
The quality of the layout, the diversity of the boards, and the general anything goes (besides nudity and slurs) attitude it what drew so many people.

probably because other fans boards banned the first sign of opposing fans while TD let them post. As it grew, other boards spawned.

Are you really arguing that the SEC Rant is a success because Chicken is an LSU fan?
It's a success because Chicken had enough common sense to recognize that there were a lot of SEC fans out there who were tired of circle jerk team fan sites and wanted a place they could discuss sports with all the fan bases. It has nothing to do with him being an LSU fan.

At it's inception, the SECRant was a great place to conduct civil discussion and interact with fellow SEC fans about SEC sports. Now it's nothing more than a flame fest with way too many idiotic posters pissing all over any discussion. They've given up any effort to moderating this place.
