It absolutely sounds like you had a technical/install/equipment issue.

Lol you idiots if they are giving you all that than they aren't getting th SEC network anytime soon.

If people are serious about cancelling, why does it matter "when" DirecTV is getting the SECNetwork? Those people are on the line in order to end it -- and it won't matter if they pick up the network tomorrow if those people are already with Dish.

It's those that don't follow through with it that prolong the deal. I ended my directv sub 5 months ago and cited this very reason. Luckily, I'm happier with Comcast w/my 50 meg internet. $110/month with HBO/Showtime/Starz, whole home DVR, and 3 HD boxes.

Most of the people calling are out of contract so even giving this stuff away(I got 30 dollars off a month) they can still cancel guilt and fee free. They're definitely carrying it.

Direct TV is having big hang ups with SEC Network, may not get done.

DirecTV offered me a lot but not quite as much of per month, by that time though I'd already basically made up my mind to switch to Dish, which I just did today (placed the order anyway).

Dish is giving me a lot to switch too:
$30 off a month for a year
Free movie channels for 3 months
Free sports package until next year
Hopper sling
$200 gift card

ETA: oh and I didn't pressure DirecTV at all either, just told them I was planning on canceling and why and the offers started coming.

I've been with DirecTV for about 10 years but once I started looking I liked what Dish had to offer better, plus I know they will have the SEC network. I'll also be able to get Watch ESPN which I currently can't with DirecTV

I called today and the chick on the phone didn't even know what I was talking about. She said what is the sec network? We have espn gameplan that will give you every college football game. I just hung up after trying to explain to her for 15 minutes

Heres the hook buckwheat. Did they extend your contractual commitment? Mine is expired. If I call to switch, I plan on doing it. If those bums dont get SECN, I AM GONE.

Same here. I plan switching on August 10th if no SECN on DTV. I don't have a contract with DTV and can switch whenever I wish.

I did call for info about DTV getting the SECN and was told they hoped to have it by this time next year.

Directv will likely get SEC Network soon. We all believe so anyway. I called today to cancel service and site lack of SEC Network as reason. They gave me the following to stay:

$50 off bill for 6 months,
$40 off bill for 6 months after that,
$100 one time bill credit,
$100 Visa gift card,
AND NFL Sunday ticket for free in 2014.

Call and get your deal today, fools. (also got confirmation that they'll honor that deal even if they ultimately get SEC Network)

I'm calling bullshite on that one.

That's because you weren't talking to the right people. You have to say that the reason you are calling is to cancel service, then they will connect you to client retention and they are the ones who can, and will, hook you up.
I tried calling just to ask about the network a while back and had the exact same problem that you did but the guy with client retention sure as shite knew what the SEC Network was and he was willing to do a lot to keep me.

After speaking with them I have no problem believing that the OP got everything he said he did. FYI, you could too. All you have to do is call and say you are considering canceling. Actually you really should do that, you'll get free stuff and you'll put pressure on DirecTV to get the SEC Network.

It does seem like a lot to offer and not try to extend your contract. But maybe?!?

I called the other night and after I got past the non speaking English girl , that kept trying to talk to me about Weather nation??? Have no idea, the guy gave me a $15 discount to the end of my contract (1 yr), red zone free this year, and HBO/SHOW free for 3 months. Which sll I wanted was the discount. I really like DTV and got burned a bit by Dish a few years ago.

I just hope DTV gets a deal worked, just wonder how much pressure they'll get from PAC12 if they get SEC. Might end up with both , hopefully I hate looking for a random late college game

I didn't even lose DirecTV during Hurricane Isaac, but often lost signal without a cloud in the sky. May lose Dish slightly more during the rain, but never in sun, so I guess its less signal lose overall.

This.

I had this crap happen so much in Birmingham. It would blank out and the rain hadn't even made it to my home yet.

I called directv today (been with them since 1999) to negotiate a deal. First, i called dish to get a price on their cheapest package that included sec network. Dish gave me a total price with tax of $55 a month, and that also includes pac-12 and longhorn network. the rep also told me their tech can install a switch so i can flip back and forth between dish AND directv service.
Then came my call to directv. I asked for the disconnect dept. and mentioned i NEEDED the sec network and had already called dish, what can you do for me etc.. I ended up with free nfl st and $30 off my bill for 12 months in exchange for a 12 month commitment.
The dish rep will call me back aug. 30 to set up a dish install IF directv doesn't get sec network. Take it for what it's worth (his pro dish bias) but the dish rep said directv IS NOT gonna get sec network, and on top of that, 2014 is the last year of their sunday ticket deal, and it's questionable they will re-up on that.

You're wrong on this one, rooster.

I switched from Dish to DirecTV in late February and that's almost the exact deal I got. Huge discount Year One, free HBO and Cinemax for 3 months, $100 Visa GC, $100 in credits (for bundling with AT&T) and free Sunday Ticket for a year. And I've earned $100 since by referring a relative.

I didn't want to leave Dish and there are facets of their service I still miss, but they wouldn't offer anything of substance to stay. So it's playing the two year contract game to save money.
