So far, not a great start for the SEC as a whole.
SEC vs KenPom Top 25: 4-15
SEC vs KenPom Top 50: 10-22
SEC vs KenPom Top 100: 33-31
SEC vs KenPom 101-362: 61-7
The four big wins against the Top 25:
Tennessee beat #14 Wisconsin
Arkansas beat #15 Duke
Tennessee beat #16 Illinois
Texas A&M beat #19 Iowa St.
The seven bad losses against teams outside the Top 100:
Vanderbilt lost to #294 Presbyterian
LSU lost to #267 Nicholls St
Missouri lost to #261 Jackson St
Mississippi St lost to #239 Southern
Mississippi St lost to #125 Georgia Tech
Kentucky lost to #119 UNC-Wilmington
Arkansas lost to #110 UNC-Greensboro
Record vs the Top 100 sorted by most wins:
4 wins: Tennessee (4-3)
3 wins: Florida (3-3), Texas A&M (3-3), Auburn (3-2), Miss St (3-0), Ole Miss (3-0)
2 wins: Alabama (2-3), Arkansas (2-3), Georgia (2-3), LSU (2-3), Missouri (2-2), S Carolina (2-1), Kentucky (2-1)
1 win: none
0 wins: Vanderbilt (0-4)
I’m not sure the SEC has a single team that looks likely to be a Top 2 seed. I think we have 3-5 teams that look to land somewhere between a 3-seed and a 9-seed. My guess is we only get six teams into the Tournament.
My early gut feeling based on what I’ve seen:
3-seed: Tennessee
4-seed: Auburn
5-seed: Texas A&M
6-seed: Alabama
7-seed: Kentucky
Several teams on the bubble: Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida, Miss St, Missouri, S Carolina. Likely one gets in and it’s anyone’s guess. My bet would be Florida right now.
Vanderbilt and LSU appear to be the bottom 2 teams.

Kudos to Tennessee for playing a high % of their games against the top 100 and getting a winning record against them.

Is Miami not a KenPom top 100 team? Or St Joes?

Sorry. Skipped over Kentucky by mistake. They are 2-1 against the Top 100. OP fixed.

Think we’ll learn a lot about UK this weekend versus UNC

It's amazing with even all the investments the SEC has tried to make in basketball and we still cant put some good seasons together.
I am sorry LSU threw in the white towel with McMahon, we simply gave up.

Based on an Auburn’s fan opinion? Lulz
I am holding off until Kentucky plays UNC and Zaga. But to the OPs point, the UNCW loss is an anchor around UKs neck.

They have looked good. They are a veteran team with their starting PG, starting SG, and starting SF returning and returning a few key bench guys and bringing more vets from the portal. Feels like they have a ton of contributors that are 3rd 4th and even 5th year guys.
Will be interesting to see if other SEC teams that are younger and/or have more new faces can gel and peak later after an obvious shaky start.

I wouldn't necessarily call this a bad loss based on eye test. They beat Duke the next game after beating us.

Bart Torvik’s Projected SEC Finish:
1. Auburn (12-6, 23-8)
1. Tennessee (12-6, 22-9)
1. Alabama (12-6, 21-10)
4. Kentucky (11-7, 21-10)
4. Texas A&M (11-7, 20-11)
4. Florida (11-7, 20-11)
7. Mississippi St (10-8, 20-11)
8. Arkansas (9-9, 17-14)
9. Missouri (8-10, 17-14)
10. Ole Miss (7-11, 20-11)
10. S Carolina (7-11, 19-12)
12. Georgia (6-12, 16-15)
12. LSU (6-12, 14-17)
14. Vanderbilt (3-15, 9-22)
If this were to pan out, I think Tennessee would be a 3-seed… Auburn and Bama 4-seeds… Kentucky probably a 7-seed. Texas A&M and Florida 9-seeds.
Mississippi State would be one of the first 4-8 teams out and would be wishing they had beat Southern in early December.
1. Auburn (12-6, 23-8)

4. Florida (11-7, 20-11)
7. Mississippi St (10-8, 20-11)
8. Arkansas (9-9, 17-14)
9. Missouri (8-10, 17-14)
10. Ole Miss (7-11, 20-11)
10. S Carolina (7-11, 19-12)

What is the deal with Torvik and Auburn fans? Did he graduate from Auburn?
Posted on 12/14/23 at 11:20 am to Rip Torn
Not sure. I was introduced to that metric when SummerofGeorge linked it once, who is a Bama fan.

State will be a tourney team. We have been without our best player but he will back for SEC play.
