3 out of 85 players. Seriously though, that roster was not as bad as you are making it out to be.

Billy Kinard at Ole Miss went 10-2 with Vaught's players in 71 and never won more than 5 games on his own and didn't complete his 3rd or 4th year

Chiz sucked as a coach, but there's no denying he (and his staff) could recruit. Auburn had plenty of talent for Gus to work with, at least.

Mark Richt walked into a pretty talented Roster. Then after year one, O'Leary leaves Tech and they revert back to whipping boy material. Add Spurrier going pro & Fulmer forgetting how to coach which essentially left the SEC East only a notch better than the shite show that is currently and I'd say he walked into a pretty sweet deal. It was nice and rosey until Spurrier and Meyer had a year to establish themselves.

I don't think a coach has ever gotten as sumlin has. Dude walked into a team with

a first round QB sitting on the bench
a freak of nature WR
Basically an NFL Offensive Line. Jockel and Matthews were top 10 picks, and every player on the line will play in the league

lol still never won his division or made a BCS game

It was pretty bad though. The QB situation was abysmal and the defensive talent subpar at best outside of a few standouts.

C'mon now guys

I'll give you Chizik, but Malzahn had it made, despite any attempts by the press to make it look like Auburn was short on talent. In fairness, I'm sure Malzahn had a lot to do with all that talent.

It's not about what their record was the previous year (it's almost always bad because SEC coaches rarely leave after winning seasons. It's about the talent they have on the team that they didn't recruit.

Saban actually walked into a great situation at LSU in 2000. For all his faults in keeping Tepper around too long, DiNardo really recruited well. We were stacked at nearly every position when Saban came in... Just needed a spark.
