How many of you are old enough to remember these or went to them? My dad took me when I was little. I think we played Miss St and then Tennessee played Ole Miss.

Will we ever see them again? Teams are trying to play more games on campus now, so it doesn’t seem likely.

They oughta do that again and hand out free weapons at the gate before everyone heads to where their car was once parked.

That’s right.

One of my memories as a kid was seeing 3-4 different team colors’ shaker strings all over the ground outside the stadium. Seemed cool at the time.

I remember seeing the Tigahs & Webels play at MS Memorial back in the 80s.

The SEC should go to 9 conference games, 4 home, 4 road, 1 neutral site.

Put money into the old stadiums like MMS, Fair Park Stadium, Legion Field, Liberty Bowl, etc. & play at least 1 neutral site game each season & split the tickets 50/50.

Would bring the SEC brand out to more fans that can’t go to home games.

This will never happen again but it is a funny but odd thing to think about.

Also beyond the fact that schools want on campus games, Jackson MS sucks too much to even host a MSU vs directional school. Could not even imagine the disaster a double header would be

I went when I was much younger. Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. You will never see them again if we have anything to say about it. The stadium no is used by Jackson State and both Vaught-Hemingway and Davis Wade are much nicer venues and a lot larger than when we played double headers in Jackson.

Memorial Stadium was sold to Jackson State. Not even an option anymore.

Jackson is a third world shithole now.

Probably will never see SEC games in that stadium or town again.

Jackson State packs about 13k of the 62k seats there on average.

I think it is still owned by the state. They just lease it to JSU. Either way they would have to approve it which means is would cost a ridiculous amount of money to make them consider. The last game I went to at VMS was a Saints-Colts pre-season game and it managed horribly.

The last time I remember the big 2 playing a game there was Ole Miss-Arkansas in the early 90’s. I worked at UMMC at the time and the parking to get to work that Saturday was a nightmare

The Dock was rocking after a Sat double header in Jackson.

I do remember being at The Dock after a State/USM game in Jackson and watching Kurt Gibson hit his World Series walk off HR.

I went to two such doubleheaders as a child and it was LSU and Ole Miss in the afternoon with Mississippi State and Alabama at night

Great memories.

I loved them. I remember LSU bs Ole Miss and the Bama vs State. And the stadium being a sea of rebel flags on one side and purple and gold on the other. Then they cleared the stadium out and then started letting people in for the next game.

The field was absolutely trashed after the second game. Completely ripped-up which made it very difficult for JSU to play on afterwards.

The Dock hosted a very wide variety of acts in its years, not to mention was a hangout for numerous A-listers for a few movies.

Prince
Eddie Money
Wang Chung
Tesla
Drivin-n-cryin
Vince Neil
Blind Melon
Lillian Axe
Widespread Panic
Type O Negative
Sebastian Bach

Schools around the country used to play games at venues other than their home stadium to appease fans. It’s why Arkansas still plays in Little Rock.

Those neutral stadiums used to be just as good as what you’d get on campus, but that has changed. I think those days have been substituted with the neutral games in Domes. It’s still a home game if Georgia plays in Atlanta. If LSU consistently played in New Orleans, it would be the same thing. I know LSU did play in Shreveport, and obviously Alabama schools at Legion Field.

It’s sad to see The Old Gray Lady in such bad shape these days. It’s a reminder of a bygone era.

I know the Liberty Bowl was renovated recently, and the Indy Bowl isn’t bad. It’s on par with War Memorial IMO.
