This isn't a troll thread, so back on out if you're coming to respond to it as such. I'm looking for unbiased opinions on this topic, as hard as that can be here sometimes. We're all guilty.

Back to the topic, is it really currently true that the SEC West is a step above in competition compared to the SEC East? Based on the last 15 years or so of SEC East/West championship results, the west seems best. Is it more just an issue of the west being top-heavy currently?

Discuss.

Definitely. East was a powerhouse while the West was down years back as well. It's just our turn.

I don't know if I would say top-heavy but the teams at the bottom of the West are much better than the ones at the bottom of the East.

It goes in cycles though, East will be back on top eventually.

At the moment, Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Missouri are somewhere between horrible and bad, and the SEC West has Alabama.

So the answer is yes.

The way I see it now, it could very easily flip-flop at any time. Coaching changes, up/down recruiting years based on prior success. Anything can happen.

Texas A&M is a sleeping giant in the West. They could be one great coaching hire away from really gaining their potential.

On the other foot, Florida has access to superb recruit talent in their state, and might be turning in the right direction as well. Not sure Tennessee is really on track like they all think they are, but we'll see.

So many factors and what ifs.

Unquestionably. Just like the East was in the Spurrier Fulmer Heyday. I think they are coming back though. I like what Mcelwain is doing at Florida and Smart seems to be a good fit a UGA. Tenn was going in the right direction but who knows what happens now.

I am not sure the East will ever be better than the West top to bottom or ever was. I think at one time you had the top of the East, all of the West, and then the bottom of the East and that could happen again. I don't think the bottom 3 or 4 of the West will ever be worse than the bottom 3 or 4 of the East.

I could see that but a just average bottom west could swing the power back to the East. That wouldn't be for at least another 5-10 years.

The East in 2007 was pretty damn strong with UGA, UF, Tennessee, Kentucky, and South Carolina all having really good teams.

texag7 is a dumbass. Thread is about top to bottom. not one game in a season. How did it feel getting beat two years in a row by a team that lost to a East team by 30

problem is the east has vandy and kenucky, non football schools

When "east was so good" , really, it was only spurrier florida and Tennessee.

It's cyclical. When Spurrier and Fulmer were in the east and the Mike Dubose's, Ed Orgerons, Jackie Sherrill's, Gerry DiNardo, Terry Bowden's and Danny Fords were in the west it was an east beat down in regular season and SECCG.

The East always have Kentucky and Vanderbilt, so the rest have to pick it up. Florida and Tennessee and somewhat Georgia did over the years from 92 to 09.
But since, those top 2 have slipped, where the West anchors of Ole Miss and State gave improved.
