There are too many bowls and too many kickoff classic games. The value of these bowl games is diminished each year. I would expect the attendance to continue to decline.

I agree that there is an over abundance of bowls, but I don't think that's going to change any time soon.

So sugar bowl had 2000 more attendees than capacity?
I checked out the link... so no knock on you Rooster, but those numbers are all very fishy.
I don't think most of those bowls had more than about 30k.

Was at the Liberty Bowl. Think another 20,000 could have walked in and found a seat. Not sure how the official attendannce was 10K short of capacity.
They are always playing games with attendance figures.

Ole Miss people hate anything that is quantifiable, because they inevitably come up on the short side of things.
I think its because they're so poor.

there were not 58k at the Orange Bowl
Wonder if that's paid attendance. Orange would be lucky to have 20k in actual attendance.

I agree. It may take a decade or so of playoffs but I think bowl games are on the way out. If the number of teams in the playoffs increases to 8, 12, or 16, I'd say the bowl games are doomed.

I like the bowl games between major conferences, but I'd prefer playoffs. Can you imagine a playoff home game at Tiger Stadium, Texas A&M, Michigan, FSU, Bama, etc. Man that'd blow NFL playoffs out of the water.

I think they go by tix sold. Also gotta remember that both schools required ticket allotment (between 12,500 & 18,000 depending on bowl) is paid for by the school whether they sell them or not, so those are considered "sold"...
The SEC kicks back money to each school for "unsold" required allotment tickets in the "bowl expenses" part of the overall bowl payout per team...

I was at the Belk Bowl, sure didn't look like 40,000+.

Not really. Damn near every sporting event ever gives tickets sold as the attendance.

Can you please put a space in between all the bowl so it isn't just smashed together? Thanks!

Why does Missouri have such a terrible fanbase?

Nah. They'll just continue to incorporate them into whatever playoff format they use.
Live sports television advertising dollars is what's driving this.
As long as the ratings are good the bowls are here to stay.

Don't care about the fans, at least the team didn't embarrass the SEC on the big stage. Ole Miss had the worse damn losses. fricking got blown out, suppose to be one of the "better" SEC teams. Hell don't see how you got a New Years 6 after getting spanked by Arkansas. I knew it wouldn't have ended well vs TCU.
Bet you won't get another New Years 6.

all of them were paid tix, not attendance.
The Sugar and Texas Bowl had more attendees than anyone.
Orange bowl had 235.00 tix going for 12.00 in the last few days, horrible really...
Liberty did a bit better, but plenty of seats were available.
some of these announce a sellout prior to the season beginning. The cotton sold out all but school allotments in June...
