Through 2024, there have been a total of 1,279 AP Polls over the course of 76 seasons.

From the first poll taken in the first year of the AP Poll -- January 17, 1949 -- the following are the SEC programs ranked according to their percentage of times they were ever ranked in the AP Poll at any time during one of the past 76 seasons.

1. Kentucky - 76% of all polls......73/76 seasons = 96% (#1 in the nation!!)

2. Oklahoma - 30% of all polls.....39/76 seasons = 51%

3. Tennessee - 28% of all polls....38/76 seasons = 50%

4. Alabama - 27% of all polls.......32/76 seasons = 42%

5. Texas - 25% of all polls .........32/76 seasons = 42%

6. Missouri - 24% of all polls.......19/76 seasons = 43%

7. Florida - 23% of all polls.........31/76 seasons = 41%

8. Arkansas - 23% of all polls.......30/76 seasons = 39%

9. LSU - 18% of all polls.........26/76 seasons = 34%

10. Vanderbilt - 16% of all polls.........27/76 seasons = 36%

11. Auburn - 14% of all polls.........24/76 seasons = 32%

12. Mississippi State - 12% of all polls.......19/76 seasons = 25%

13. South Carolina - 11% of all polls........16/76 seasons = 21%

14. Texas A&M - 10% of all polls...........15/76 seasons = 20%

15. Georgia - 5% of all polls.............15/76 seasons = 20%

16. Ole Miss - 4% of all polls...........8/76 seasons = 11%

Here are the 6 other winningest and most tradition-laden programs from around the country (they all trail Kentucky in this stat).............

-- UCLA = 58% of all polls......65/76 seasons = 86%
-- North Carolina = 75% of all polls.........67/76 seasons = 88%
-- Duke = 70% of all polls........63/76 seasons = 83%
-- Indiana = 45% of all polls......58/76 seasons = 76%
-- Kansas = 67% of all polls......67/76 seasons = 88%
-- UConn = 31% of all polls.......34/76 seasons = 45%

****What is very remarkable about UConn -- and this is probably the 2nd-most remarkable team stat in all of college basketball after UCLA's historic 7 years-in-a-row of national titles -- is that UConn has now won 6 national titles in being ranked in only 31% in the history of the AP poll and ranked in 34 out of 76 total seasons of the AP Poll! That is phenomenal! UConn is 6-0 in Final Four title games.*****

We have the regular season history of a Top 25 all time program, but a really average postseason one

I miss when we had a respectable MBB program.

You might want to adjust something with your Missouri data, something doesn't add up.

Almost like the SEC has been a shitty conference until 4-5 years ago

Auburn was a shitty program until 4-5 years ago. That’s not true for the rest of the conference. It certainly wasn’t as strong as it is now, but it is not a shitty conference, compared to most.

Twenty-six (26) different conferences have had members reach the Final Four of which only 19 are still in existence.

Here's the ranking of Power 5 and a few other major conferences.........

1. ACC - 50 appearances in the Final Four

2. Big 10 - 49

3. Independents - 39 (+1 vacated)

4. Pac-12 - 34 (+1 vacated)

5. SEC - 33

6. Big East - 23 (+2 vacated)

7. Big Eight (defunct) - 20

8. Missouri Valley - 18

9. Big 12 - 12......Southwest (defunct) - 12

CHAMPIONS

1. ACC - 15.....Pac-12 - 15

3. SEC - 11

4. Big 10 - 10

5. Missouri Valley - 4

Funny enough, UConn had never been to a Final Four when Arkansas won it's national championship.

Also keep in mind that Arkansas didn't have a basketball program until 1923 unlike many basketball programs had already started by the turn of the century.

Arkansas went to the final four first in the 40s before Duke did in the 60s.
