Did I say anything about winning it and that is was more important? Someone said overall record is all that matters, which is just an ignorant statement in basketball.

That's not really true. at all. Overall record is worthless, if you don't have any quality wins. Not saying that's the case for LSU, just that the statement "overall record...which is really that matters" is patently false.

I remember Pearl's last year we were something like 18-12, a handful of SEC teams had better records, and we still made the tournament because we had an absurd number of top 50 wins.

Last year despite being 34-0, Wichita State wasn't the overall number 1 seed. Florida, alas, with a worse overall record, was the overall top seed. They were debating as to whether even make Wichita State a 1 seed. Kentucky then beat them in the 2nd round.
