You only get points for the round you finished in (ie a Final Four run is just points for the final four). Therefore the # of "S16s" isn't going to be the teams total S16s, only years they ended their run there.
LAST 10 YEARS (since 2015)
LAST 25ish YEARS (since 2000)
64 TEAM NCAA ERA (since 1985)
ALL-TIME (since NCAAT began in 1939)

2. Alabama
Would you describe this period as largely consistent or a tale of 2 halves?

It's crazy that Alabama is the only program in the SEC without a losing season in the past 10 years.

This really just ranking tournament success

Tournament success is 75-90% of college basketball depending on who you ask. It's a postseason sport.
Not to mention, the regular season is given points.
- Round of 64 means you made the tournament, had at the least a decent season
- Conference Title is equivalent of 2nd weekend - that's a real accomplishment
- Losing season is penalized --- you had a bad year if you lose more than you won in a big league
But yea, success in the tournament trumps all.

I can safely say that an amazing regular season is pretty soiled by even a decent tournament showing. It’s not that you don’t love the team but the heartbreak lingers

Basically, Heath, Pelphrey, and Anderson years screwed us.

Neither deserve to be mentioned in the same category as Pel

I don’t even have to look to know we are arse last by a wide margin

Wait how does Auburn have fewer points all-time than they do since '85?
ETA: nevermind, negative points

The pre-64 team era is tough to compare with the same point system since so few teams were getting into the tournament.

I hate the last 10 years of Mizzou basketball

Cool data thanks for creating and posting it.
OU is going to be bad next year. Unless Coach Porter pulls a miracle out of the portal scraps its likely going to be his last season. I think he’s a good enough coach but for whatever reason he has not been able to get over the hump from when Lon retired and players bolted.
Also felt he didn’t play enough bench players which hurts 2 ways. They get less experience to help you next season. And lack of playing time means lots hit the portal after season. I just don’t see him surviving.
He’s done great getting students engaged in games and all that - but its a win now league and he’s missed playoffs, so likely gets this last year. And first in SEC, so will be brutal for him unless he gets lucky in portal.

Kind of sucks because racist ole miss politicians in the state government wouldn’t allow State to compete in the NCAAT until we snuck out of the state (complete with decoy busses) and did it in 1963

In reality it would probably make sense to add either a poll component or NIT component, at least for the years pre-1980 when only 1-2 teams from each league made the tournament.
