Cause he can't guard 1-5. Guarding on a switch is not the same as saying he can guard 1-5. If you say a player can guard 1-5. Then you're saying he can guard any position on the court straight up. That's what that statement means. Being able to guard on a switch is not the same. There are very few NBA players that can guard 1-5. WCS will not be one of them.

Can guard 1-5 =/= up straight guarding for 40 minutes. It means you can get a bad switch and not be a liability.

Was a bad choice of words? Either way, it's extremely impressive.

Either way I'm done as well.

I'll admit that I don't know everything they look into when choosing these awards. I assumed it was mostly stats though since that seems to be the driving factor in pretty much every other sport.

Either way, I'm not mad. I'm glad LSU has players even in contention with UK players

I did not make this statement.

can guard 1-5 = can straight up guard for a whole possession. Which WCS could not do.

That would be your interpretation. Nobody said he could straight up guard for the whole game.

But was a slip up on my behalf I guess because it left too much for interpretation?

I think they probably took into consideration minutes played and the system he plays in. I'd hope they weren't just rolling with some stat line comparisons and considered impact on the team. He's played a big part of the team almost setting a historical field goal percentage defense (I think they missed Stanford's 2000 mark by just a few tenths).

I'm pretty sure the majority of basketball coaches/players would agree with my interpretation.

I've seen and heard "can guard any position on the court" many times the last couple years. Does that mean the whole game? No.

Which he has done.

Example:

"Any time you have a 7-foot kid start the game defensively on your point guard, that's pretty unique," Tennessee Coach Donnie Tyndall said.

Also LaDaunte Henton - Providence:

But this wasn't just any dude. CBS Sports tabbed Henton its National Player of the Week after he filled up against Notre Dame. Over his previous four games, he had made 42 of 67 shots for 62.6 percent. His Twitter handle is @HentonBuckets23, for heaven's sake.

"Everybody's going to key on him, but LaDontae's averaged about 30 point his last three games," Cooley said. "I think they put (on him) probably one of the best defensive players I've seen in a long time in Cauley-Stein. He's got quick feet, he's long, he jumps over mountains. It was a tough matchup."

Isn't Josh Richardson basically their PG?

If Mickey had Towns and 3 other NBA players on the court, I am sure he'd be an even better defender.

But as it stands, he plays next to Darcy Malone some of the time and plays 35+ minutes a game.

He's actually 6'7 1/2". Even more impressive.

BUMP because the Wisconsin results actually made this discussion relevant again.

Ok, so after Wisconsin mangled Kentucky's switch strategy by dominating mismatches in the second half, we still on this talking point? What is the consensus?
