Man it’s amazing how much other SEC programs have improved in baseball because of Skip Bertman. Each program does it their own way but wow, the level of play in the SEC is really incredible.

I think what OP meant is that Skip Bergman is for SEC Baseball what Magic Jackson and Larry Berg were for the NBA.

I'm a huge LSU fan and as big of a Skip fan as anyone, but to leave Ron Polk out of the discussion is just wrong. Hell, Ron was the butt of some great Skip jokes, but Ron was a helluva baseball coach.

I would say SEC baseball is where it is today because of Skip and Ron.

This is 100% true. I would add Polk in the mix too. While he didn’t have the Skip Success, he was a vital piece to LSU’s dominance.

Ron Polk from Miss State is actually the Godfather of SEC baseball and helped convince Skip to come to LSU. He was first coach to show that college baseball didn’t have to be a money losing “ b “ sport. They were great friends and I always hated that Polk never got his Natty. They both helped develop SEC baseball into the dominant powerhouse it is now.

You wouldn’t believe how bad it was at Ole Miss and most SEC schools in the 80s. Most good high school teams had better facilities and at Ole Miss they didn’t even charge to come to games as they never had over a few hundred fans anyway. It was a joke.

Polk. Skip took his blueprint and went next level.
