You sure are naming a lot of DBs and not many interior DL. The defense starts up the middle and LSU is deficient in that area if you ask me.

New DC... average DL by SEC standards... #1 defense in SEC? I'd be surprised.

Assume they'll be good though, as long as the new DC isn't terrible.

DE depth chart:
Lewis Neal, Tashawn Bower
Sione Teuhema, Deondre Clark
Arden Key, MJ Patterson/Isiah Washington

DT's:
Christian LaCouture, Davon Godchaux
Quentin Thomas, Frank Herron
Greg Gilmore, Mickey Thomas

Etc, etc etc.

Ok?

I said interior DL, so not sure what DE's have to do with it. My point is still valid.

The thing that will help the defense is the offense. If the offense can run the ball and control the clock the defense will not give up a lot of yards because of TOP

No, you have no valid point. LSU's interior depth is fine. You fail to realize LSU will be running a lot of 3-4 sets. You just want to pick up the negative talking point and run with it.

Looks like the old DC left them deep and stocked with talent

Without John Chavis it will be interesting to see if LSU can continue to have the #1 defense in the SEC. Steele has been known to give up a lot of yards and a lot of points. That won't work in the SEC.

And made him your DC. There was a reason he was only the LB coach at Bama. But hey, he may be good enough to be a DC at lsu. Standards are a little different but hey to each his own.

A lot of 3-4?

I bet LSU won't even line up in the 3-4 20% of the time. They won't be running a 3-4 when teams go 3 wide or more which is a very high percentage of the time.

Yeah, LSU is good in numbers. The rest is projection and upside based on high rankings out of HS.

I don't have a dog in this fight and think LSU's defense will be very, very good. However, over on the recruiting board, all the LSU posters were saying their chances to land Rashan Gary were great because you would be running more 4-3 defenses. I wish you guys would get your talking points straight!

We return both starters, one of whom was a freshman all American, and also a former starter who was playing very well even after tearing both biceps. Add to that three guys who have supposedly developed well after three years in the system, with measurables that would make any DC jealous. The LB corp is full of seniors who have played very well at times and a guy most agree is a top 2 MLB in the league. He's telling you about DEs because that's the only unproven position group. Every where else is a wealth of talent and depth, which is what this prediction is based on.

Yep true story here. This is why Chavis will be begging Sumlin to slow down the offense.

Christian LaCouture(JR) 6'5 310 and his body fat is down from 25% last year to around 17% this year. He has really trained hard in the off season. Davon Godchaux(SO) 6'4 300 started as a true freshman last year will be monsters in the middle but they will need relief. Thomas, Johnson, Gilmore, Herron have the talent but will they step up. We shall see soon enough.
