Naw, official word just came out today.

Also,
quote:

This is a big deal because Cochran was considered arguably the best at his job in all of college football and losing him to an in-conference rival would have been perceived a big blow to Alabama, his close relationship with Smart notwithstanding.

But the more interesting part of this will come later when Alabama announces the financial aspects of what it took to keep Cochran.
quote:

According to AL.com, Cochran, who has been at Alabama since 2007, received a contract extension this year through 2017 that raised his salary to $420,000 per year. He almost certainly isn't staying at Alabama solely out of loyalty, so it's reasonable to assume he will again see his salary increased once again
quote:

Let's say Cochran gets bumped up to $500,000 — and it could very well be more — that's essentially what Georgia Southern coach Willie Fritz made this year after winning a Sun Belt championship in 2014

Can't really blame him. He might be friends with Smart, but it's not like Smart is moving across the country. They can get together pretty easily, and Cochran has a good thing going at Bama. He has a job as long as Saban is there and uprooting his life for a move that doesn't guarantee he won't be looking for another job (with another significant move) in a few years doesn't offer much in the way of advantages. S&C coaches don't really get much acclaim or extra money for helping build a new program.

I don't think he has any interest in moving away from SC either. It isn't like there is an upgrade available for his career path. He's more than likely the highest paid S&C coach in CFB.

Lol @ UGA fanbase. They got super pumped when Shart was hired. Thinking they were going to scalp Sabans staff.

What? UGA fans with unrealistic dreams? No! Say it ain't so! Since 1980.

I'm pretty disappointed a Tech fan can't write a witty or clever troll. You're a damn disappointment to Rambling Wrecks everywhere.

Getting vested is part of it, but he could have coached anywhere (including HS) at the backend of his career to get that last year.

Some states base retirement income on the best 3 or 5 years, and some on the last 3 or 5. Does anyone know how Alabama does it?

Why the hell is there a techie on this board?? What a pathetic life you must have.

Yes Cochran was good, but anyone melting over this is an idiot. Hocke does a damn good job, and I'm not surprised Cochran would stay. I'm stoked about the future with Kirby.

I never knew that college football could be this entertaining. Double bonus.
