A guy who’s never played a snap is a bigger loss than the best safety in CFB?

Impact wise absolutely. A safety can be schemed to reduce their effectiveness in a game. You can hide an average one or scheme to limit a great one. QB impacts every snap. You can’t hide a bad QB.

It’s the other way around. Right now, the only thing Bama is losing is a clipboard holder.

Its really not.

I know you want to believe Downs is superman because he is going to Georgia, but he really doesn't move the needle that much because safety just isn't that important. You can't succeed with bad safety play, but you can (and history shows many teams do) with just "good" safety play.

The one way a great safety can really help you is with a team with a good tight end if that safety can cover 1 on 1, but coverage isn't even Downs strong suit right now.

Is Downs really changing your win total projections for Bama or Georgia for the next two years? If he is, he shouldn't be.

If you told me to take one or the other right now its SUCH an easy call to take a swing on the QB that only improved his stock over the past year in becoming the number 1 QB in the country, even if Downs is established as a great player.

So they effectively traded one of the top QBs in the 2024 class for the #214 overall player from the 2023 class?

Seems like a bad trade

Dude losing the top quarterback from the class who was projected to be next man up after Milroe leaves and possibly even compete for the starting job this year - that’s a huge loss.

Check out the last 5 years or so of top QBs and see how many actually ended up being really good college QBs

It’s around 20%.

There’s a very very good chance Sayin was never gonna play a snap at Bama anyways

That’s speculation so you can continue to suck off Downs. If Downs wasn’t projected to Georgia you wouldn’t be so adamant with your argument and beliefs.

We'll see if Sayin becomes the stud his star rating projects. That is not always the case. Bama and Georgia have had 5 star qb's leave and never stand out.

That makes him look bad. Every freshman cant start and leaving like that makes it look like a cash grab.

I figured this would happen with DeBoer bringing in his own QB from Washington.

This one I’m shocked by. DeBoer runs an offense that makes QBs shine.

He only did it with Penix and even then they got shut down in multiple games.

Seeing a whole lot of this from Gump twitter:

quote:

Julian Sayin did not leave because Austin Mack was coming in. More like Austin Mack came in because Julian Sayin was leaving.

Despite Sayin being from California and having offers from almost every school, DeBoer and Grubb were never once interested in him

i'd expect a deboer coached team to be fine at qb...makes sense they brought in the transfer yesterday.

but some other team is really about to cash in with sayin.
