Honest answer is frankly Ole Miss never mattered nor won enough to ever be looked at. Was Ole Miss doing things like everybody else? sure. Just not on the scale they are now.
SMU example used again. Sparse success, couple conference championships in their history but mainly middle of the road. All of sudden the Eric Dickerson's of the world are going there. They are bringing in number one ranked classes without much historical success. It got people's attention.
Oh, Ole Miss has it too. How are 4 and 5 stars flocking to Oxford now? How are you beating Michigan, ND and Alabama for 5 star recruits from frickin New Jersey?? Ole Miss is doing the worst thing they can do. Making it too obvious. Yes, people around the country are asking the very question of how. It's not if Ole Miss gets nailed but when so enjoy this before the laundry starts to smell.
Oh BTW, don't forget your little issue with the NCAA back when Billy Brewer was coaching either. Ya know, glass houses and all.
