Just look at how badly LSU has wondered in the wilderness without Saban. And that's with ALL of the Louisiana talent to themselves.

They hired Ed Orgeron. I don’t think we will hire a DL coach to replace Saban.

He isn’t Auburn’s definition of mediocre. He is legitimately one of your most successful coaches.

Plus, get real if you think we are going on probation back to back again

Not sure people understand this. The 90's and early 2000's was Alabamas absolute worst period in history. And it took back to back probations to sink us to such low levels. If that's what you're banking on then good luck buddy. We won't be as successful as we are now when Saban retires. It's lucadris to think that but if you think Alabama will be some half arse barely .500 team you are probably going to be very disappointed. Too much energy is dedicated to the program in Tuscaloosa. The program is just better than yours Aubs....face it!!

When you look and talk like Bowden and Paterno, yeah. Depends on how fit and sharp Saban remains. Age is just a number of he can still walk the walk and talk the talk

Bear should have retired after the 79 season. He was actually going to and the reigns handed over to Steve Sloan. He started thinking about that all time wins record. Mal Moore said Bear was doing very little coaching from 1980 forward. Ken Donohue left for UT after 79 and that was our most important asst coach. Brother Oliver took over and we were still "good" but not great.

Without a true Head Coach you can win, you won't win the ones that matter. As of right now, Saban is still VERY MUCH the head coach.

I was there when Coach Bryant retired. He said that he realized his wishbone oriented scheme that he had used for 12 years had run its course. He was quoted as saying this meant he had to totally redo his operation...different coaches, recruit different types of players, etc., and that he did not have the energy to do all that. Also he had a minor stroke about three years previous....

Keep in mind he had done exactly what he was talking about several times in his career so he well knew what had to be done and how to do it. The auto retirement was not an issue. He could have continued. But he was not in good health at all.

Coach Saban looks young, still playing BB, throwing passes to receivers. I have a hard time imagining what else he would be happy doing. I think if he failed to recruit top classes a couple of years in a row he might consider going... it is possible another NC would do it too.

The way Saban keeps bucking trends I ain't going to bet against him.
With the scholarship limits and all the resources so many colleges are putting into it you are not supposed to be able to dominate the sport this bad.

But Saban sure is doing it. Frickin Bama

Jimmy Johnson and Miami killed the Wishbone.

Of course, but I wouldn't trade the aftermath that's going to follow. Expectations of a natty every year to hoping for one every 15-20 years or so. (As we saw in the post Bryant era)

That's a bitter pill to swallow.

Not as bitter as having to hope for one every 50 or so years.

Agree with this. Miami broke Oklahoma during Johnson's tenure there

So Alabama fans have anywhere from 5 to 8 season left with Saban, man that's got to be scary to think about.

Scary for who?

Saban has 5 titles in his first 11 seasons and is in the playoffs now. If he wins it, that will be 6 in 12 years. At Bama he has never gone more than 3 consecutive seasons without a natty.

So, if he lasts another 5-8, we can reasonably expect 2-4 more titles.

How we feel when he hangs it up isn’t the question. The question is can tRant survive that many more beatings by daddy.

He's already 67 years old. Bear Bryant retired at 68. I would think Saban coaches until 75 at the latest and 72 at the earliest.

Bryant looked 78. Saban looks 57.

You live your whole life as a fan of ANY sporting team to see the run we've had. Something tells me we'll be alright. After all, we made it after the Bear left! Most of us will probably feel like we will finally be more able to do personal stuff on our football weekends, seeing as to how we can't miss a single game nowadays b/c the getting is good right now. I, for one, have thought a lot about that. If your team starts to lose more you can relax a little more during the season in many ways.

What's actually sad is how you are literally fantasizing about our mental state about losing our coach one day. To think that one man has taken up this much real estate in your mind is purely entertaining.
