This is your opinion. People act like the spread teams kick our arse. We lost to Aubie on a fluke play. We lost to Aggie by like 4 with a chance to win near the end, had the offense not turned the ball over. We own OM. Sugar bowl was a bad loss but I think we are due for one of those every five years or so. The spread teams look good on Bama because they move the ball well, and non spread teams don't, save LSU. Lets not pretend every time we go against one we get embarrassed. Saban will be fine, there is no other coach in America I want in charge of our defense.

But it's a double-edged sword. Lean and fast works great against A&M and Auburn. However, you saw lean and fast getting ripped up by Wisconsin's power running game for 3 quarters last night.

exactly, guys like Hightower and McClain were great because they were monsters with enough speed to still get to the edge. It isn't as much about philosophy, (i think we would attack more if we had more confidence in our defensive backfield) as it is about personell

our fans are such retards!

I agree for the most part, especially all the hate for a black QB I have been hearing, we have the most wins in the past 7 years than any other school and these fans are still crying and complaining like were supposed to win a NC every year...maybe we need to lose 4/5 games, then when we start winning then maybe the students will stay and watch and quit acting like some spoiled fans...quit crying and enjoy a pretty good football team, and lets hope these kids develop over the season.

A lot of overreaction in this thread. Bama will be right there at the end.

If we played AU or Aggie yesterday we may have taken the loss. That said, WVU threw everything but the kitchen sink at us...only difference is AU and Aggie will have better athletes. Still not sold on either teams defenses and Bama can put up a lot of points. Still a lot of time and we won't see either until the end of the season.

Saban's philosophy will stay the same but he has made some adjustments to it.

Good game for the defense to look back too when scheming for the next HUNH attack. Don't forget, WVU had all summer to come up with a game plan, other HUNH teams won't have that luxury.

If Blake Sims can play like that and the running game be a force as it was, we will keep those HUNH offenses on the sidelines and give the defense plenty of rest.

Saban and Smart are going to continue to blitz spread teams and continue to get torched. The shitty CB play doesn't help. They're determined to die by the sword.

If only you could tell us "what will happen" instead of "what would have happened", you opinion might be worth a shite to somebody.

no doubt Sabs brought in Kiffin to solidify '3 yards and a cloud of dust', after all Nick is the president of the "good will coaches club" right? I doubt there are few coaches more pissed off that they only beat a team instead of beat the hell outa a team.

Need more evidence that Nicks old teammate (Gary Pinkel) is rubbing off on him and he doesn't want to show the other guy up. By the end of the season he will be winning by 50 or looking for new coordinators.

Maybe Saban and Spurrier, but Miles, through his hires and recruiting, has built the premier anti-spread defense in the country. Not sure where this impression is coming from.

Correct, but his teams have struggled against the Alabama's, Georgia's, and Wisconsin's lately. 2011 LSU is the only defense I've seen that did not have matchup problems. Stanford's defenses fared well versus the high octane and traditional offenses the past two seasons.

LOL what???

Our protocol has been the "mush" pass rush against Cam and Manziel, with the goal to contain them in the pocket. Meanwhile, they have 7 seconds to throw, and they've been lighting up our secondary.

Then against Auburn's running attack last year, we plug holes with gap assignments, as they chew up 4-5 yards a pop.

I'd say, if anything, we need to blitz more to disrupt plays in the backfield

Honestly, the spread is just the current flavor of the month offense. The great coaches figure it out, then the others blue print it. That offense slowly fades into something else.

Remember the option in the big 8? No one was ever going to stop it

Run and shoot/fun and gun? Teams were scoring 50, 60 points. Impossible to stop.

West coast offense?

Now the spread HUNH. It's all cyclical

How come when LSU gave up a shite ton of yards to WVU and Oregon several years ago but won the game, LSU fans were saying, "That was The Chief's plan all along. Give up yards and contain them." , but when Saban and Bama does that, it's a fatally critical flaw in Nick's philosophy?

It's not our fans that are saying it. It's your own. Chavis let them dink and dunk on all those short yardage passes because he knew he had amazing dbs on the field that would get him a turnover sooner or later on the drive. They were gonna complete some passes and get some yards but with that many plays they were also gonna make some mistakes and we would capitalize on them.
