Should not you be looking at Saban first 8 years as a head coach versus Kirby's first 8 years. Kirby smokes him.

Pretty historic runs from great coaches.

So you're implying Toledo and Michigan State are on par with Georgia?

Interesting take.

Implying that Kirby is just getting started.

This is insane!

Both coaches are absolute juggernauts.

And it doesn't feel like Kirby has been at UGA for 8 years. Damn time flies

Do you even SEC East v. SEC West?

Kirby worked under Saban for like 10 years and inherited a program that won 8-10 games per year. Of course he’s doing great. He’s a great coach.

Saban inherited a dumpster fire in Tuscaloosa.

This thread kinda sucks though.

The two programs 5 years leading up to each of them taking over.

Bama (2002-2006) - 36-27 - 0 Division Championships; 1-2 bowl record.

Georgia (2011-2015) - 50-17 - 2 Division Championships; 3-2 bowl record.

Saban had much less in the cupboard when he took over at Bama than Smart had at Georgia.

Do you even 1-5?

Kirby isn't on his level.

Saban is 5-1 vs. Kirby and two of those wins were with backup QBs. The lone loss came in a season we beat them and our receiver corps was a triage center.

The win was the outlier. We would have beat their arse last year too.

This.

Saban was given a shitty team and built it. Kirby was given a solid program in a division with easier schedule.

Let's just look at the competition Saban has done this against in the west. Pretty incredible run.

Anyone who is trying to make a valid argument will easily remember this particular stat. While Smart didn't necessarily walk into the same situation Ryan Day did at Ohio State, it was still a much better one than what Saban inherited in January 2007.

No, because there's no comparison.

Not to mention the timeframe of the turnaround - from coaching hire to Natty.

Kirby spent 8 years learning from the GOAT and walked into P5 program that, although it had wandered in the wilderness for 40 years, was not a broke down wreck with no potential. Richt won a lot of games and had just had them in the SECCG and a hair from a NC appearance three years before Kirby got there. Saban started at the bottom.

As a Bama fan I’d argue that what Kirby has done may be more impressive. Yes he was given a better situation, but he has 2 national titles with the GOAT still coaching

Sure, sure. Couldn't beat UT or LSU. Two teams that we destroyed but you were definitely gonna beat UGA's arse last year
