Patterson, Saban, Mullen and Pinkel all did remarkable jobs.

I would guess it will go to Patterson or Meyer.

I don't get this argument. Isn't it part of their job to get better talent?

Well yea but let's be honest, starting out there's only so much you can do at MSU and TCU. The program both coaches are building from basically scratch is pretty impressive. They've managed to make bottom dwellers into attractive programs

Richt got that far actually playing by the rules. Gotta give some credit for being clean.

At first I thought this was a ridiculous answer, but why else would he be on that list? Certainly not for any on-field reasons.

Just bizarre that he would be on that list at all.

Pinkel lost a home game 34-0 and lost to last place Indiana

He should be out

this is why CMR is on the list though the "on field" category is gonna be the end of his candidacy.

The fact Richt is on this list lets me know they nominate too many. He has been at this program forever now. Never been to a National title. On a year Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee suck and he could not win the east. I never understand the obsession with this man. I get it he is a nice guy but that should not buy you passes like this. I agree Mullen and Patterson make the most sense. But I give Saban credit too he had quite a few go to the NFL last year.

Yeah but you know what he means.

While Saban's ability to pull talent is excellent, it's less of a task when ESPN told recruits (and still does) that playing for Saban is the best thing you can do and he's the best coach of all time. He came in with so much hype it is impossible to tell the living room salesman from the hype. That isn't disparaging, just the way it is.

Contrast that with a guy pulling talent without the acclaim, or who coaches up lesser talent to compete against folks like Saban. Obviously that has value.
