You don't agree with him? Why do hate the players so much?

So he's advocating players come back to a league full of scary, harmful hurry up offenses and risk injury rather than go into the league and get minimum 6 figure salary. Very selfish IMO.

seems like a good idea. let em come out and talk to HC's, position coaches etc. Give em a dose of reality as it pertains to their worth in the NFL.

Well said.

I agree with Saban on this as well.

I agree with him there but what about the kids who are leaving early to help their families?

In today's world of Gov assistance, who can't subsist for another year?

quote:

And the kids who are "done" at their schools, ie. problem kids who, all of those involved, agree that they should just move on?

If they are "problem kids" in a controlled environment, how big a problem would they be in an uncontrolled one? The NFL isn't looking for a Mr. Badass to represent the league and few clubs will hire babysitters for them.

quote:

I think something needs to be done to keep these kids from jumping to the next level too soon, & Saban's idea sounds about right.

What school cannot duplicate the physical tests and provide a Wonderlic and have the results evaluated?

I think he is right in what he is saying. Obviously, he is concerned with players leaving too early, but the current system is a disservice to the players. All they hear is how great they are and what amazing players they are, (Especially, if they are on teams that are highly ranked.) There should be a way that they get a reality check and are able to return for another year to get better. I think it helps everyone out.
I don't think there should be any type of separate combine run by the NCAA or schools, though. It is in both of their interests to have the player return, and would only invite shenanigans.

Agree, as long as said player doesn't pick up an agent before going to combine.

Actually, I almost think it would be better if players were able to get advice before going to the combine. They only problem I would draw with this is that there are a limited number of players invited to the combine, and if a large percentage of them go back to college every year.....that's not really fair.

Let them get the advice they need and evaluations before the combine, and reserve combine spots for guys who are definitely gone.

Yea, but signing with an agent basically undermines the whole agenda here. An agent is never going to tell a kid to go back to school. They only care about their own wallet.

I'm all for letting them test the waters and attend the combine before making a decision, but signing with an agent should equal the end of amateur status.

Yeah.

I almost think it would be better to move the combine back after all pro days.

I just checked because curiosity had gotten the best of me. 15 of your last 30 threads started have been about Bama and/or Saban. Wouldn't you rather talk about YOUR team?

I hate when Bama fans use the "little brother" thing on you Aubbies b/c it is another example of their superiority complex, but shite, judging by your post history they have have a point!

Players could participate in the Combine and still decide to return to school if they need to?

I'd be good with that. Let them find out more about where they actually stand before they give up their eligibility.

Yep. I think the fact that going to the combine negates eligibility is dumb. They should be able to test the waters more freely.
