This and the fact that the media and fans would regardless - perfectly describe a college football play off

It is a lot easier to pick #1 and #2 than it is # 4 or 8 or 16.....

I agree. I could live with a "plus one" but I don't want a real playoff.

With out shorten the season a play off would only show which teams had the most depth. Teams with less depth would not have a chance after the regular season. You can see this by just look at both LSU and Bama's players. All the starters have some minor injuries both teams have enough talent and back ups to maintain a high level of play.
