Some pretty big names there. I'd pick Shwartz out of that list.

Tennessee isn't searching for a head coach.

I'm amazed that the Michigan State head coach hasn't been mentioned yet. Someone is going to poach him one of these days and get a steal.

Foley just said we were hiring a guy with an offensive background or history of great offense, so you can write off all of these guys except McDaniels.

Dantonio would be great. You think he'd leave? Seems to have it made at MSU. Won the Rose bowl is forever the savior of sparty football.

I think UF could go to 90-95% of the coaches in college football now and they would at least listen. Very few coaches would be willing to take a job that pays what UF will pay with the ability to recruit local talent like they have access to. I would go the route of finding the college coach I want, and get him. I wouldn't go after an NFL guy.

You guys are all smoking crack if you think Josh McDaniels is horrible. He's really screwing up New England for the SECOND time isn't he? Pretty sure that 2007 18-1 Patriot team had him as offensive coordinator too. Been assistant under Bill Belichick and Nick Saban. Yeah, this guy is horrible!

McDaniels got fired because the media hated Tebow, and thought trading Cutler was a bad move. Media also blasted him for disciplining Brandon Marshall during a losing stretch. Went 8-8 his first year and didn't finish second year because of the Marshall saga.

Say what you want, but that would be a helluva hire at Florida, IMO. You folks hoping he's the one better be careful what you wish for.

Just figured I'd get it started before someone threw his name out seriously.

Lots of rumors. Pretty certain that nobody on this list will be UF's next coach.

If I'm Foley I make Chip Kelley, Pete Carroll, and Jim Harbaugh tell me no before I move on to anyone else.

I'd scoop up Jim Leavitt really cheap. Dude would kill it at Florida.

Will be on AU's short list if EJ gets the door.

You picked to coaches he was an assistant for that control what their teams do.

I would love for any team to take Josh McDaniels. He thrives under Bill but he doesn't have what it takes to be on his own.

This thread will make for an epic bump when they hire Chip Kelly.

Kelly would be an epic hire.

eta: He isn't struggling like Saban and not sure they could lure him away unless he too just hates dealing with pro players.

As far as I know, with the exception of Schiano , none of these "likely" candidates have been HCs in college. That's a huge minus. The college game -- including recruiting and player development -- is different enough from the NFL that I wouldn't trust the best NFL coach in the world to make a smooth transition unless he had prior HC experience at the college level.
