You don't get it. It's sorta like this: AU fans have ALWAYS said or thought we are better than bama fans as a fanbase and it isn't even close. Bama fans would respond with there isn't much difference between the two fanbases. That should tell you something right there. A bama fan just wants to be compared to an AU fan while an AU fan does not want to be associated with the bama fanbase in general.

I believe I get it. The fact that anyone cares whether strangers are "better" based on football fandom indicates a certain insecurity and lack of reasoning. It would be the equivalent of someone finding a small group of people in a fanbase who are doing philanthropic work and use it to assert that that fanbase is better. That would be as absurd as your assertion about AU/Bama fans and how becoming a fan of one school or the other magically transforms one into better/worse depending on which school is chosen. People who believe it are people who want to believe it because it bolsters their football self-esteem. I guess if it imparts some positive feeling about themselves or their football team it isn't necessarily a bad thing.

We aren't better based on our fandom.

We are better because we aren't Alabama which means we are better by definition as the bama fanbase is the bottom of the barrel.

And of course we have a better university. Not many even question that. Not like it matters to the bama fanbase which mostly never set foot in a classroom there anyway.

So whatever happened to the gump fan who felt the need to rub his balls on a unconcious LSU fan while on camera?

I know he spent some time in one of our fine jails, probably became a few of the inmates bitch while there, but after his release?

Back to selling sporting goods at his old job?

It bolsters your football self-esteem to believe that. It indicates immaturity and a lack of understanding. People have often used the same argument to feel superior in the same manner people use race to say one person is "better" or, to use your term, the bottom of the barrel. It justifies their animosity toward others.

The best way to describe Alabama fans is that they are uniquely homogeneous in comparison to other fanbases. That is, if you've met one of them, the other 99.9% are likely the exact same way. Notice I didn't use the term 'gumps' as that is reserved for members of this group, just the most extreme examples.

But overall, what you usually get is a product of their upbringing. There is nothing else in that state to get excited about but Alabama football. No pro sports teams to speak of, no culture outside of what they know. Alabama fans act as if they live on an island in the middle of civilized society, ignoring the society outside their realm.

They would make for a great subject for some psych study without a doubt though I'm sure that's been at least attempted before.

A interesting group, seemingly devoid of the social skills exhibited by the majority of the people surrounding them.

Forbes, US News and world, pretty much anyone besides you that ranks universities say you're delusional. Not many even question that.

It's been interesting to observe how football affects people and debating their motivation. Thanks for starting the thread.

You could've saved yourself some time and thought, and just typed "I am a judgmental douchebag."
