Not true they could be trying to get more depth at QB.

You think a school like Vandy in the SEC NEEDS depth?

They've got 3 QB's already and another coming in.

Exactly. Vanderbilt has 24 wins in the last three seasons, it's time to start recognizing they are at least a competent SEC program at this point.

He may be bad, but you can never have enough QB's on staff in case something happens. Hopefully nothing does happen and Jennings has an injury free year. I wanna see that kid go a whole season, should be fun to watch.

3 QBs is plenty, I'd only be worried with 2

I was all about Vandy when they had Franklin and Herb Hand. Will be interested to see how they do now. Not a huge believer in Dorrell as OC.

If he was horrible at LSU Vandy wouldn't want him. He'd be going to some D2 school.

Rivers has done nothing at LSU to suggest either way. He's taken about 5 live snaps on the field in 3 years. It's essentially just going on coaches word (Which obviously they will vouch for him) and his high school tape at this point.

Other than incoming true freshmen that I'm sure Mason would like to redshirt, we have two QBs on the roster, Robinette and RS-Fr McCrary. I doubt Grady will be a factor. We'll take depth...and will probably need it at some point.

There's a reason he wasn't used.

Good and needed depth with a spot available and only 2 young QBs on the roster to be joined by two true Fr. As long as he stays healthy though Johnny McCrary is gonna be the guy, likely for the next 4 years. He has the strongest arm I have seen on a VU QB outside of Cutler and is a huge kid. He and the young group of RS Fr & true Fr signed by Mason will be fun to watch develop together.

I know that VU is gonna play defense Shoop was great but honestly think the coaching staff upgraded on that side I the ball. Offense is gonna be a wait and see though I was encouraged by what I saw at Vandy's open scrimmage back on the 22nd.

The amount of sadness this causes me is surprising high. Grady is one of my favorite guys on the team. Maybe they move him back to WR or at least use some "wildcat" formations with him and McCrary on the field at the same time. Speaking of McCrary, I haven't actually seen him play. I've heard great things, but I would like to get eyes on him. Anybody else see this "strongest arm since Cutler" stuff? Hopefully ESPN covers Black and Gold game, so I can get some visuals.

As for Rivers coming into the team, I couldn't care much less. It's a little strange that a guy with 2 years of eligibility is being brought into a team who is having a battle that appears to be down to a RS Fr and RS So. The "doom and gloom" Vandy fan in me wants to get nervous, but it's not as quick of a reaction as it used to be.

Rettig should transfer. He'll never see meaningful time at LSU with Jennings and now Harris.

I posted the same thought on TD in the QB progression thread. Barring an injury to Jennings or Harris he should make 2015 transfer plans.

I have seen JMac and the team practice twice this spring and went to the open scrimmage on the 22nd as well. He is clearly a cut above from an arm talent perspective than anyone VU has had since Cutler. Now he has big things to work on, no.1 in my mind is touch. His arm is so strong that he tends to overthrown intermediate/short routes from time to time.

I'm not sure if you will get to see him before the season Plains but the ball just has a different look and acceleration coming out of his hand that I don't think others on the roster will be able to match.

I say the same thing. The sad thing is that I believe Rettig has plenty of upside, it just won't happen at LSU for him with Jennings and Harris on the roster. He will be a strong candidate to transfer in 15'. Rivers will do nothing more than hold the clipboard like he did at LSU.
