Earlier we had a thread where some Tennessee Vols, or their alters wanted out of the annual game with Bama.

I have always, going back to the early 1960s, considered that game a rivalry. I know Coach Bryant did, though he talked mostly about General Neyland.

That thread got me to thinking.

The only rivalry USC has is with Clemson, though some younger fans also count Georgia. That game did have great appeal and astronomical ticket prices because it was played so early in the season. But it really isn't a rivalry.

The rivalries as I see them in no particular order of importance beyond the first two:

1) Alabama vs. Auburn
2) Georgia vs. Florida
3) Alabama vs. Tennessee
4) Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State
5) Georgia vs Georgia Tech.
6) Florida vs Tennessee
7) South Carolina vs. Clemson
8) LSU none
9) A&M none (Used to be Texas.)
10) Missouri none (Used to be Kansas)
11) Arkansas none (Used to be Texas)
12) Kentucky vs Louisville.
13) Vandy none
14) Georgia vs Auburn.
15) Florida vs. FSU.

I very much enjoy these rivalries and have for a long time.

Comments, corrections and conversation welcome:

Some posters might want out of the rivalry with Bama, not the majority of the UT fan base. They just want to beat Bama.

Can you justify this statement for me? Because I know I can prove it false.

You hand out towels that literally say rivalry on them when you play them and you guys argue like every other fanbase does with their rivals

LSU and Aggy are rivals, at least I consider it a rivalry. I would also give Arkansas/Aggy a bump for SWC rivalry days. I feel like Ole Miss and Auburn have been very competative with Aggy since we joined the SEC. If that pattern continues, they will become much more hyped up games (they are already nicely hyped).

I am not disputing the rivalry remark. I am actually one LSU fan that hopes it does take off. They have the money to become a good program, fairly close proximity, and it doesn't seem fabricated like the Arkansas one. I was more referring to the "daddy" part of it

And to think I worked for Kentucky company. Been to Louisville and Lexington many times. One of my favorite places. I am truly sorry.

No worries. We may want the rivalry to be forgotten after this year's game.

I would argue it is not yet a rivalry. But it certainly could become one. I have always thought of LSU as a power most years.
